The login for that router should be at http://192.168.1.1
Try and login with the following details:
User name: admin
Password: password
To change the password, select 'Maintenance' and then 'Set Password'.
Make a note of the password you set and keep it somewhere safe.0 -
hope you get it sorted soon, just for an update mine came back again and it was after using the pc rom my guess is that it has a virus but someone told me that if its an official rom it can't. can anyone tell me if it can or not?
Hi crystal9
I'm not sure I am understanding what you mean when you say "pc rom"
Do you mean a CD Rom (Compact Disc) ?
If it is an original CD from a software vendor, it is very rare for originals to have a virus.
BUT
If it is a copy that someone has burned onto a CD recordable disc, then during the process of burning this copy their PC could have had a virus which was burned onto the CD recordable disc.
Now that you have found the disc is infected you should destroy it so that you do not forget and use it on any other PCs
(And inform any of your friends who may also have used that disc or any other copies made, they will need to check for a virus on their PCs)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

The netgear web site confirms that 1.2.30 is the latest firmware for that router

Firmware is the 'software' that your router has installed on it. If there is a new version available it probably contains some security updates and some small software changes. It is probably a good idea to update it but you need to follow the instructions to the letter. Make sure you don't interupt the web browser while the process is taking place. Your safest option is to not touch the computer while the update takes place.0

right changed password, is that it?0

after upgrade download box pops up with warning you are attemting tom open a file that may harm your system do i still wish to open it?0

Edit - When you login to the router, is it telling you that the firmware is now up to date? If it is then don't open the file. You should be able to perform your firmware update through your web browser without downloading any files.
The password change should prevent any unauthorised changes to your router settings from the likes of viruses.
One other thing to check, if you have wireless, is that it is encrypted. Most wireless routers are encrypted by default now but it is still worth checking and making sure you are using the WPA version of encryption. This can be checked when you login to the router under 'Wireless Settings'. You should see one of the following options selected:
WPA-PSK [TKIP]
WPA-PSK [AES]
WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]0 -
mine says this- Enable Wireless Router Radio Enable SSID Broadcast Enable WMM Fragmentation Threshold (256 - 2346): CTS/RTS Threshold (1 - 2347): Preamble Mode0
