Yep, it closed all my desktops down then ran scan. picked up 1 tracking cookie but problem still persists.

Are you saying you can't update Malwarebytes even in safe mode with networking?

If you can't update and you have access to another computer download Superantispyware Portable to a USB memory stick and try it on the infected computer/laptop.

Once you have scanned with Superantispyware portable then try Malwarebytes.

    Was that with Superantispyware Portable?

Open your IE browser, click on tools > Internet Options > Connections Tab > click on Lan Settings, see if the Proxy Server box is ticked?

If it is untick it and click OK.

    Try downloading Malwarebytes.

If the Proxy Server box is already unticked then report back.

Okay, the malware may be in your system restore files.

Turn off System Restore, restart your computer/laptop and run Superantispyware again.

Hang on it may be something like the zlob trojan that redirects your router, reset your router.
Unplug your router for about 30 seconds and plug it back in. When the lights flash back on, it should be reset.
Change the admin password for your router.
