But Morrisons did accuse the op as soon as they contacted the Police and said"Police.... A lady in a x car has filled up with petrol and driven off without paying, yes I do have her registration plate, its ab12 cde"

I think a verbal apology is more personal than a word processed typed apology...a handwritten letter may be more personal?

I really dont think OP cares if she has a handwritten or typed apology, she just wants an apology from the store manager with confirmation that an investigation has taken place and steps taken to minimse risk of this happening again. What she has had so far is a store manager lying to head office and refusing to talk to her. She has had an apology granted- but this was from a customer services rep who was working on the assumption that the store manager had delt with it- this apology wouldnt mean anything to me either as clearly no investiagtion has taken place or likly to take place if the op accepted it. Would you all be saying same thing if NHS or another public service behaved this way?

    alizee...

They are called Trolls, as I understand it, and pests that are hard to eradicate.

Yawn.....they don't agree with me, have made an adverse comment or thrown in a quick one liner, so they must be a troll.

Some of these one liners which have been thrown are far more valid than this assinine post.

No, there was no legal action - the Op was never accused. Big difference ...

It is important to differentiate between a defendant and a suspect. A suspect is generally a term that is used by law enforcement. It refers to a person who is believed to have done wrong. This individual has likely not been formally charged. He is merely a subject of suspicion.

When a person is a defendant, suspicion has been taken to the next level. This means that some party has made a formal accusation of wrongdoing against another. As a result, legal action is in the process. There must be a court case in order for there to be a defendant.

OP wasn't accused, they weren't charged - just suspected, questioned and eliminated.

They were not the accused in a court case or action but they were accused of a criminal act by Morrisons.
Definition 1 is in common usage.

    Accused Law Definition
    n
    1. A person who is blamed for a wrongdoing.
    2. A person who has been arrested or formally charged by an indictment, information, or presentment with a crime.

Morrison's only reported an incident to the police, involving 'a lady' and a 'car reg'.

Who the police questioned in relation to it is nothing to do with Morrisons.

Morrisons would have said to the Police - "Lady in car reg XYZ has stolen some petrol". That is an accusation.

Pretty obvious who the Old Bill are going to go and have a chat with.

I think you are mixing the concept of suspect and defendant with an accusation.

What if there's a car with fake plates with the same reg as the OP.

Just as well Morrisions alerted the police to it over the fuel incident, else the OP could be getting parking tickets and speeding fines.

The OP ought to be writing a thank you letter to Morrisions and sending them a bunch of flowers.

There was no incident, the operator in Morrisons (I don't know where you got Morrisions from but you have done it twice) was just incompetent.
