There really is no need to be bothered about what never happened.

That's the bit that bothered me tbh...but then, perhaps there are cctv cameras that could have shown the true picture? Don't most/all garages have cctv these days? If the OP had no proof, would the next step for the Police not be to check the footage and also the till records and timings? Couldn't things have been disproved that way? Or have I been watching too many tv dramas again? :rotfl:

At face value, the situation just seems like an honest mistake to me and personally it wouldn't have bothered me as much as it's bothered the OP but that's not to say she's wrong for feeling as she does.

It's a scary thought that it had the potential to become worse though, if not for the production of the receipt.

Ah, but that wouldn't anywhere near as dramatic as Marley's scenario where OP WOULD be cuffed and carted off in the cop car, no matter how more likely or how much more sense it makes :D

Oops didn't mean to cause such uproar!!

I don't want a letter for the neighbours or anything like that. I just want curtosy and respect! I have a job where I have regular CRB (criminal record) checks which is why it bothered me in particular. I know it wouldn't have gone further in long run as am innocent but just bothered me accused so casually! I would have thought CCTV checked and then accuse/suspect. The police were actually given my description too so CCTV was checked but obviously not thoroughly. Police were really nice, it's not them I'm annoyed at, they're just doing their job.

Also my job is in an industry where when complaints are made they can cost an absolute fortune and cost people jobs, so we're trained from an early stage that apologies can really make a difference because people often aren't bothered too much by the mistakes that are made, but how it is handled, i.e. explanations and apologies! So I suppose because of that I then expect fairly high standards in return

Also I don't want to sue etc, come on now, it's not that bad!! By take it further I meant was there someone in Morrisons who I should forward letter to! It's one of those situations where I simply thought I'd call to see why no response and continued to be ignored and lied to which did annoy me but I'm sure people can see why. My agenda when I wrote letter was for an response saying sorry and then job done - a piece of paper, envelope and stamp cost little and manners and courtesy cost nothing!

Someone said earlier something like 'welcome to the unfriendly forum' - I didn't realise that I'd get such a hostile response off so many but it's not all bad, there are some lovely people here too! xx

Or, lets imagine she drove off, forgetting completely to pay for the fuel, do you really think for a second if she gave the police a tenner and said "give them that and tell them I said sorry" would cover it? Not one Iota.

I worked in a petrol station and the police would always consider the matter closed if the driver claimed they forgot to pay and did go back and pay for the petrol later on.

One time a guy filled up a stolen car and came in saying he'd forgotten his wallet and asked if he could come back and pay later. I told him he had to pay or be reported for theft, he said he'd go back to his car and call a friend. I followed him and wrote down his plate number and he started shouting abuse at me then left without paying. The police did him for the theft of the car but refused to prosecute him for the theft of petrol because he came in and asked to pay later so they considered it a civil matter.

I think you're right to be unhappy with the treatment from Morrisons, I think I'd probably want an apology too but from someone responsible rather than someone in a call centre who doesn't even know anything about what they're apologising about. There is a point though where you need to accept that Morrisons just have really bad customer service and if they don't want to apologise then they don't have to and you just have to let it go.

I agree that a number of people in this thread have been quite hostile.

Not quite the same sort of situation, is it?

As others have said, the OP was able to prove innocence quickly and effectively. That is pretty fortunate in my view.

    Hello Abby.......

I know you feel as that you have been unjustly treated, however i would much rather an apology come from someone who is speaking to me.

If you feel that you have been hard done by then by all means keep this going until you have a satisfactory conclusion, there will come a point when they write a written apology just to placate you and get you off there backs...(maybe) its i just get a feeling that if you were to get a written apology you would have recieved one by now.

I find it really funny that some people comment about the OP wasting 14 weeks of her life ( where'd you get that from?!). Same people then waste a lot of time here reading all the replies and thinking of "witty" comebacks.. If you don't agree, i don't think it's very hard to make yourself understood in one post.
