I worry about that too Susan, especially now Miss M's a proper toddler - people tend to stare much more now when I feed her in public, so I avoid it. She normally doesn't need it but since she's been off colour she's having milk almost like she did when she was a newborn and since it seems to be comforting as well as giving her nourishment (she's barely eating real food) I'm not objecting to it.

I don't agree with it so I don't know. Your HV should be able to tell you.

I seem to have done really well as nobody ever seemed to have any issues when I BF in public. Occasionally the odd person passing gave a second glance but that was it.

I've not been giving T vits either and HV has never said anything and know I am still bf'ing! Will ask next time I go too.

T walked behind her walker for a few steps this morning, it's crazy the rate she is developing eek! She is full of cold ATM tho and is sleeping lots, add to that am sure she is teething too as she is dribbletastic.

Made T eggy bread this morning but she wasn't intrested so the dog got it but was just wondering if it would have saved for lunch?

Eggy bread wouldn't have saved for lunch or gone to the dog in this house :o

I've never had a bf comment either but I do try and be discrete and sit in a corner if poss.

I think I have mentioned before that the idea of breastfeeding beyond 1 year was strange to me. It's only from reading this thread and my friend feeding her daughters longer, that it is now normal to me. I'd just never seen anyone feed beyond 8 months or so. So I probably would have stared a few times, just to confirm that I did see and older child breastfeeding. Not in a bad way, just curiosity.

Michael didn't get vitamins, Chris did and Amber isn't. She eats enough.

Apart from one friend who fed up to 17 months I've never actually seen anyone other than me feed a baby older than 12 months. Although I'm sure I probably have and just didn't realise it as I don't go round looking that closely when I'm out. (And it seemed strange to me too until I did it but when you actually do it, it happens so gradually that you don't really notice and it's just normal.)

    Why not try tinned fish?

There are two potential issues with pate - listeria and "too much" vitamin A. It is hard to find out what the actual risk of listeria is though - according to an article from the ARM that Sami linked to a while ago it is so low there is very little scientific literature about it and it is usually case studies which implies it is uncommon. As far as vitamin A goes, I was well below the limit for vitamin A when I analysed my diet and I was having pate twice a week and other things containing liver too. Therefore I still eat pate as I don't consider it to be a risk.

Children are not supposed to have liver if they are taking multi vitamins and they are "supposed" to take multivitamins from 12 months to age five (or from six months if they are breastfed).

thanks for this info - is it really the standard recommendation that LOs should be taking a vit supp? I'm shocked. I think LO gets a varied diet, but now I'm unsure whether I should be hving a multi vit too as I know I benefit from them - perhaps she would too. Think I might ask the HV next time I see her......

re: BF in public. I had the oppoosite and got dirty looks and stares several times when I produced a bottle for my LO :( That made me very sad and definitely contributed to the way I felt about myself and our feeding problems.

We don't give vits either...the HV gave us some drops on her very first visit and the box never got opened. I just try and make sure he gets a fruit/veg with every meal and generally eat balanced foods.

Yay for T! :T We're nowhere near that here...we pull up onto our knees using the couch/chair but nothing more than that. I figure one day he will just stand up and walk by himself all at once just to shock us all :rotfl:

Totally forgot what else I had to say...

eta: remembered! gill, personally, I'd start with the basic hummus (tinned chickpeas are a quicker solution if you don't want to cook them from dried) and then just experiment with different flavours to see what T likes!

I've never given mine vitamins. They generally eat a healthy balanced diet, so they're probably getting all that they need from food and drink.

My iron levels wobble in and out of the normal range - always have done for no apparent reason! When I feel a bit run down and think I'm anaemic, I take multivits with iron, just to give me a boost. I don't take them all the time though.

I've caught the cold germs. I've got a really sore throat, bunged up nose, my body aches and I feel generally blergh!
Here I go again on my own....
