MFD, could your dad just be confused with the end of your contract and so on? My dad was once certain my degree was in a completely different discipline because we'd had a conversation about it one day. He has all his marbles, he's just not familiar with how stuff works IYSWIM.

I don't think it is confusion about my job. I haven't really told my parents because I couldn't see the point in worrying them until I had it sorted. And he also said he didn't know I ever worked in Stoke...I used to live in Stoke, 2 minutes away from my office...

is is just this, or has there been other things he's forgotten? has your mum mentioned anything?

if it was just this it might just be confusion as to what you are doing at the moment (not sure myself)

65--isnt too young, it can happen in people a lot younger

He couldn't remember the tiles they have bought to redecorate the bathroom, or where they had bought them from, he had to ask my mum if they had bought any....

They are here on Friday looking after Benjamin for the day. I will see how he is then (I suggested we go for dinner at a local pub they have enjoyed in the past after hubby and I finish work and dad didn't seem to know what I was talking about there either) and hopefully I will get a chance to chat with mum too.

Benjamin hasn't had a nap today so he went down with no hassle at 6.30pm. Whilst we were in the bath (Benjamin and I with hubby sat chatting to us) hubby taught Benjamin to point at my boob and say 'titty' - hope that one doesn't stick *rolleyes*

  • Evening everyone!

I am more of a lurker than a poster but would like some advice off you very knowledgeable people if that's ok!? :o

Jake is 13 months old and is having a really rough time at the mo with teething (at least thats what I think it is!) He is constantly crying and is totally off his food which is so unlike him! Does anyone have any good tips on trying to soothe this? I have been giving him calpol and bonjella, but these only have short term effect and I don't want to keep dosing him up! I am assuming it is his molars which are trying to push through!

Also on another note, how did you manage the transition from bottle to cup for milk feeds? He has moved onto cows milk but will only have it out of a bottle and am not sure how to move him on!

Any advice is gratefully received! :)

  • mad: not sure about the bottle thing though MAM make bottle teat like spouts for the transition from a bottle. I'm having bother getting my LO to accept a water (in any form!) so was thinking about trying them myself in a few weeks though no idea how successful they are. May not be so good if your LO is past the chewing on things stage.

For teeth, I know some people who swear by Ashton and Parsons powders. Haven't seen them anywhere but in my local chemist though - may be worth a try

Hello mad :) I give Miss M Ashton and Parsons powders (we stockpile them from Tesco) and when it's really bad I make sure she gets higher-calorie foods so her eating less doesn't have as much of an impact. Cold yoghurt also seems to make her feel better. She does only have two teeth though ;)

Bottle to cup I can't really help with, we just introduced a sippy cup with water and eventually using it clicked. She still won't have cows' milk though, whatever the receptacle it comes in.

Also, :rotfl: at Benjamin saying titty and :( at MFD's dad and his memory. Hopefully it's just basic capillary degeneration, a bit early but quite normal, and not anything to worry about.

MDW - I'm pleased that your parents are helping out.
MFD - Sorry that you are concerned about your dad, I hope it's nothing to worry about it. I laughed at the idea of your husband teaching Benjamin 'titty' - My DH taught A. 'boobies' at about the same age.
    Hugs CAFC.
SS - I think you've done fantastically well with your gift budget, that's amazing.
Madwoman85 - welcome! I'm sorry, I've only really ever used Calpol for teething. Although I did find that A. used to like chewing on raw carrot to ease her gums.
;) Working hard in the hopes of being 'lucky' ;)
  • I have a clingy child at the mo - wouldn't go to bed. I ended up giving her my elephant to take to bed with me, which is fine but what am I going to do when I go to bed?!

I placed an Ocado order this morning... pretty big one, quite a high total but I shrugged philosophically and went ahead. Went back to edit it and add something this evening, luckily had a bit more leisure and went through the shopping basket thinking - they have some pears on offer 2 for 1 type thing, so I bought 2 bags.
When reviewing it, noticed it had gone through as 21 bags. That would've been an awful lot of pears!

Hope everyone is doing OK... sorry you're feeling so stressed CAFC :/ christmas magazines and some rest might see you right.
