Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Have broached with friend about leaving Aimee at the gate in the morning instead of taking her to the classroom (which is round a corner at the back of the school) after Aimee told me someone told her off this morning for being on her own... Will maybe broach the lateness thing in a few days...
 I used to walk all the way to school by myself when I was in Reception and I never got told off for it.

Amber hated sleeping bags so was swaddled till about 6months!

Butif she was a full term baby then I'd try the sleeping bags. Long sleeved vests are good to wear under sleepsuits with sleeping bags for keeping hands warm if I remember correctly.

ETA DS1 has walked through the school on his own since P3. Last half of P4 he started to walk too and from school on his own, and kids younger were doing it.

It wasn't really a told off... But someone from the office spotted them and asked them where their Mum or Dad was, and then escorted them to the classroom... I suppose it felt like they were doing something they shouldn't to them though...

I don't understand these foreign scottish year systems... How old is that?
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...

  • I'd say that's about right. But like another poster says they develop differently. It depends on how much time you put in too I think. My DD is 4 early in new year and I'm teaching her to write numbers 1-10 at mo, which broadly she can do, and she can count to 20 (25 when she can be bothered!)

I have friends who have bright kids (you can just tell they're bright) but they dont teach them the numbers/letters themselves, so it's not surprising their kids cant write/recognise numbers/letters yet. It all depends on the child themselves, whether they're ready to do it and how much time you put in in my opinion.

We swaddled until 7 months! It worked soooooooo much better, especially if it was super-tight. ;)

7 when we started abandoning him at the gates, 8 when we got him to walk alone.
  • My dd is 5 and in year 1 at school. She has been able to count to ten since she was at nursery, so probably around 3 yrs old. She didnt start to recognisee the numbers though until in reception class
She has only very recently managed to count to 20 and still gets confused sometimes. At her parents evening last month her teacher said this was normal as the numbers don't follow in the same pattern - eleven, twelve and then the teens and then its twenty (she explained it much better than me lol).

I can't remember when ds could count :o.

Ah, fairy nuff... She's only 6 though... And the school is in 2 buildings with 3 ways in and very open plan, once they're round the corner they could be walked out of 2 other gates without her seeing... And TBH it's not so much that that bothers me... It's the fact that I pick her daughter up at the classroom door and drop her off at the house every day, and if it was the other way round I would be walking her to the classroom because she's my responsibility to make sure she's into school safe... And she's not showing my daughter that courtessy... And she's late every bloody day

At my DD's nursery school as a minimum standard they are expected to count to 20, recognise the numbers 1-10, write their name and know all their colours, shapes etc by age 4 (before school) so age 3 is about right for counting to 10 and pnwards :)

Sleep and moses baskets - my LO is 19 weeks almost and we struggled initially to get him to sleep anywhere but on us (still do for naps of any longer than 30 mins but we're working on that!). Swaddling made a massive difference for him and we still use it at night (though he's getting a little big for his miracle blanket (which I can't reccommend highly enough if you're rubbish like me at swaddling) so we're trying to wean him off it). We found another big difference was putting him in his cot-bed (and in his own room) about 3 weeks ago. It might be against the guidelines but he sleeps much better and so do I.
