I think that part of the problem is that the British system of 'Innocent until proven guilty' goes out of the window in situations like this. Yes, there are certainly devious S*** who stuff god knows what up their jumpers and into their childrens prams - but the majority of supermarket shoppers are basically honest and are NOT there to shoplift.

Most of the time alarms go off simply because the cashier has neglected to remove a security tag and there is no need at all for security guards or any staff member to instantly assume that the departing customer is a thief! A simple 'Sorry, it looks like there's a problem with a security tag - can I just check and get it removed ?' is a much better approach than 'Come with me , I need to check everything in your trolley as you are clearly a thieving Chav 'attitude.

I have been stopped due to left on security tags and its always been handled very diplomatically. If it had been an aggressive 'stop and search' attitude then the whole store would have known about it as I would have been very loud in my insistence on seeing a manager and putting in a complaint!

To be fair he asked you to go somewhere a little more quiet and you refused so what else was he meant to do? I don't really see what he did wrong to be honest.

I see where your coming from, but as I had the most awful experience at the checkout, difficult enough packing with crutches, literally to be pounced on, he asked me to come with him, not politely please can you come with me the alarm has gone off need to check the shopping, there was no innoncent before quilty, it was your guilty till you prove it, as I put in the post I asked for a manager, he refused to get one for me, - so I honestly feel I stuck by my guns,

What on earth was this so-called "security guard" thinking of?? Surely he should have been looking for stubbly-chinned men dressed in black and carrying bags marked 'swag'.

You complain about people staring, but refused to go with the guard to a more discreet location "as he was male". As a male, I am disgusted by your insinuation that every man is an unbridled sexual predator. You asked for the manager - what would you have done if the manager was male, too?
I don't assume that every man is an ubnbridled sexual predator, I had paid for all my shopping, I asked for a manager as I wanted a witness for my own personal safety and as a witness, if the manager was male that would of be fine, I don't have a problem with men i have a problem with the way I was treated.

That is his job. Physically violated because someone examined your shopping bags? Did you feel violated when the cashier picked up the underwear to scan them? Or at the thought that another member of staff had taken them out of a box and hung them on a rail? How about the thought that other shoppers have looked at them when they were hanging on display?
I think your taking this out of context, when those clothes came into the shopping bag, and had been paid for theybelonged to me, I don't care who looks at them before hand or anything, but once their paid for their mine. Yes so I think I'm entiled to feel voilated.

As for all this whining about the cashier not opening the bags for you, and the guard not picking up the bags from the floor, why not have the courage of your own conviction and speak up for yourself? Why wait and then rant from the anonymous safety of the internet? When your requests were "falling on deaf ears" that was the perfect time to speak up and project; "EXCUSE me, PLEASE would you open the bags. You can see that I'm on crutches. Every little helps, you know."
As for this wining as you call it, I hope your never stuck on crutches trying to pack, and I asked the czashier on 2 ocassions for assistance, and both times fell on deaf ears he continued to watch me strugge.

Again with the guard, "Now that you've confirmed that nothing is stolen, please come back and return my goods to the trolley. You can see that I'm on crutches."
He disappeared quickly so I was left to retrive my shopping, did you really expect me to stand in the doorway shouting come and get my shopping -

If there's cause for complaint, do it there and then in the store where it can be rectified. Don't just bottle it up to have a good moan on a bulletin board.

I did complian there and then, I complained to the security guard, customer services and the customer services manager, who if you like more details was female, so I think I did complain enough.

As for your comment about the good moan on the bulletin board, is the thread not called, praise, vent etc........ if you have a problem with that I would suggest think before you comment and read the posts.

As I complained yesterday to the customer services and the manager, I had a call back today from the manager, apparently the cashier had only been there 3 weeks, thou he was suppose to be fully aware of procedures. he admitted to her that he did nothing to help, and that he did hear me ask for help with the bags but he choose to ignore it for reasons only he knows, but he doesn't know why????

As for the tags - he remembered to take the tag off the vodka, but their was a lot of clothes and he just put the items through. Apparently he apologies for the incident, he is being retrained in all aspects of disability awareness and general customer service.

As for the security guard, he has been spoken to he told the manager that I refused to go into store as I explained to her yesterday I asked for a manager to be present, he admitted he may of been heavy handed with his approach but feels he did right, thou she said she has spoken to him about the incident and upon checking the cctv what I said was correct - re the way he shot round, routing through the bags after the coat and going through the coat bag after he had put it back through the alarms, apparently he apologies.

There putting a letter together for me.

What a horrible experience, its not so much the security guard, (who is only doing his job), but the service experienced at the till, you should have noted his name, but definitely you should make a complaint about it, he cannot be allowed to treat customers like they are a burden, particularly if they are noticeably disabled and struggling.

The second he tutted I would have said "loudly" to forget it and go get his manager, "NOW!!!", thats when I would have mentioned his attitude towards me to the manager, and the reason I have no intention of having any of the items, that I also expect his manager will drill it into him, the importance of not doing it again to another disabled (or enabled) customer.

if a guard said teh above to me i would have just moved out of the way and let him search the bags for the offending item whilst im stood there with my arms folded,

he was looking the clothing with the tag on it so how else was he meant to find it

    Yes, I have done.

Last time when I purchased a power drill.

The alarm went off and I kept on walking. Not my fault that the store didn't remove the tag and I was in a rush.

Last time that it happened in Tesco I gave the security guard such a glare as he approached me that he turned back, (did not say or do anything else) and continued to my car.

If they asked you to stop would you?

Tesco let you buy alcohol when you had your 8yo daughter with you?:eek:

I'm shocked!! Reading this board gave me the impression that Tesco assume that shoppers are always buying alcohol for their children. :)
