Wash your uniform at home ?

So my question is does this new code take account of the last 6 years or is it just for this year?
Thanks
Just for this year.
You'll be getting a payable order for the earlier years (should say that?). Is there a Note 16 on the final sheet? If so - that's the repayment figure. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
It would be pointless. It is tax relief you are claiming. So there is no benefit to having more of that (it effectively increases your personal allowance) if you weren't paying tax? As you can't get back what you haven't paid.
Obviously if tax isn't being paid it cannot be claimed back but a uniform still has to be washed, is there any way to claim the cost back for those of us who don't pay tax ??0 -
Hi Mikeyorks
Thanks i thought i must still be due something, but wasn't sure so thanks. There's no note 16 on either letter, just what i've already put on here. I'll wait to hear from them again guessing they are just busy with xmas and everyone asking for money :money:
Thanks Termie0 -

Afraid not. It's a tax allowance - so if you can't offset it against tax then you lose it. Just as you're losing the whole or part of your personal allowance. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Thank you Mikeyorks for clarifying, it really put my mind at rest!Make £2019 in 2019 No 153 - £4517.17/£20190

Mikeyorks,Thank you.
Did you mean yes to being able to claim even if it wasnt a company uniform eg: own clothes but still had to wash & dry them? Sorry if Im not getting what you mean, bit dopey at mo as losing loads of sleep.
Would he have to state in letter that they were not company clothes but still had to wash?
Do they get in contact with your boss?
Any other advice would be great,Thanks.:beer:0 -

You said that part of the uniform had a logo so - yes - you can claim the basic rate. Template letter on post #1 of this thread.
Unlikely HMRC will contact your employer. But they may ask you to do so and provide a headed letter if the nature of the business doesn't give them some evidence that logo'd clothes will be worn?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Would my OH be able to claim this rebate? He works in a dairy which produces cheese. He has to wear a fleece jacket and hivis vest which are supplied by the company and will very shortly be supplied with thermal trousers to wear aswell. There are no facilities for these to be washed at work or sent out to an outside laundry company. He has phoned HMRC and they have said that dairies are not in the list but that the list is not exhaustive.
Any advise appreciated. Thank you0 -
Read the top link on post #1 of this thread. Does he not fit within 'Food'?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
