My partner wears a uniform and the job is outdoors in the countryside so he gets quite dirty. Due to this he has 3 sets and needs a clean clothes every day. 5 days a week. How much can I claim for washing them for one year?

  • My partner is a police sergeant and has been in the force for 6+ yrs.

How much should he put in the claim amount? I am not sure if this is a standard figure or related to your proffesion?

    Any help would be appreciated

I therefore wish to claim an expenses allowance of £xx for each year since the above date.

What do I put in there? Is there a standard amount or do I get the amount from a 'list'?
    I would check the list
    What list?

My laundry cost is factored into my Tax Code, works out about £90 a year I think. So I'm guessing that would be the set amount irrelevant of the amount you are washing. When I did apply it was backdated, though that did'nt mean I got extra on my pay, my tax code just changed until I was reimbersed what I was owed.

Does anyone have a copy of the latest letter they have sent to claim tax back? One that specifically asks for a cheque and the alteration of tax code in the future?

The ones at the start of this tread are a fair few years old now.

    Thanks!

there is still nobody answering several of us that have asked now, if the military Regular or TA, can claim back on our tax in accordance with the said thread. can anyone at all shed any light on this.. as you know by now we have a laundry system provided on most bases, however on the on i work on, it serves mainly for the civilian staff, as it only operates on a once a week bases.... just not good enough for squaddies, needing washing doing daily.

a few years ago we know of a few people in the forces who were told about the tax refund for washing uniform and submitted letters to the tax office and got a few hundred pound back. The tax office realising they were going to have to pay out a substancial amount of money then chose not to process any more. If you got a refund think you were lucky, cos I haven't heard of anyone getting it since for being in the forces!!!!

Quite a few of my workmates in Royal Mail have written off to the Tax Office.

They have started to receive replies stating that their tax codes have already been adjusted to take the cleaning into account, but we can claim tax relief on contributions to our death grants via union subscriptions.

If any Royal Mail worker would like a copy of this standard letter,PM me.

Please could you send me a copy

Having sent off a claim for the last six years (before it was in Martin's email). I have just got a cheque covering the following tax years (April - April):

    2005-6
    2006-7
    2007-8
    2008-9
    2009-10

and the tax code for the tax year 2011-2012 has been updated accordingly.

Shouldn't I have also got something for the tax year 2010-2011 though?

    Thanks
