OH got his letter today. £336 adjustment in tax for earlier years and flat rate job expenses applied from now on. He got a new tax code to reflect all that which is fine but a little disappointing as we were expecting a cheque. :undecided

Some employers have a locally agreed allowance that is different to the nationally agreed allowances listed here on this thread.

Usually the locally agreed allowances are more then the national ones so it's preferable to claim these. HMR&C staff don't always check this so unless you ask them to check their employer notes you can end up with a smaller allowance. If there are no locally agreed allowances they should just apply the nationally agree ones, which they don't appear to have done here. On the whole it's typical of the inconsistent practice you get dealing with HMR&C.

I'd recommend you to just send another letter as the next person who deals with it will probably do it correctly.

Thanks for that, i have just given my tax office a call and the guy on the other end told me he cannot see why i wasn't getting it as his guidelines show that i am entitled to it, and has referred this back to the relevant department, i hope they sort it out and i get a refund as all the other guys i work with have all received one
  • When the letters about the tax code adjustment arrive are the cheques for previous years enclosed ?
I received a letter today re the Tax code and £60 allowance for 2011 -2012 but no mention of the past 6 years which I had asked for.
Tried phoning today but just got the message that as it's under 4 weeks since I sent the letter I need to wait longer and call back !
  • I wrote to them but never received a response after 3 years of cleaning my uniform & buying shoes & tights etc but my tax code went up to 8013 or somthing so would that have been why ? didnt get any rebate though :-(
  • Wondering if someone can help me. I am currently employed by a lawn treatment company. I am aware that I am entitled to claim tax relief, however I am not sure how much.

The employment is split over two companys. So I earn some from one and some from another. My tax codes are 647L and BR. Am I able to claim the relief on both jobs? Or is it a flat rate that covers both?

    Thanks

After reading 24 pages starting with the oldest first I have yet to come across any reference to shop workers (non food)
I work in a shoe shop and my occupation is not listed.
Am I covered and how will I determine what to claim.
    Thanks

I work for Boots as a sales assistant and I got a rebate.

I got a letter back and an amended tax code in the first week of october...my october payslip (28/10/11) didn't show the change, it still had the old code. Doos anyone know if i have to contact Boots or should it show up in Novembers pay slip (28/11/11)?

Boots should have a copy of your P2 (Coding Notice) - probably electronically - direct from HMRC. They probably start the payroll a couple of weeks in advance ....... so I would give them until this month?
