Most tax offices have 8-9 weeks post on hand.
You are entitled to the allwoance for each year that you have incurred the expense. If you think the claculation is wrong, you need to query it.

Yeah, I wrote to them at the beginning of April and still haven’t heard from them yet. Funny enough I was just thinking of this today too, I’m also starting to wonder if they’ll ever get back to me/send a cheque in the post. Will just have to wait and see I guess.

By the way Clive, when I first applied for this allowance I only got one years after working in the same company a few years. So don't be surprised if you only get £60 in the post [if it arrives].

Been discussed numerous times on this thread but you don't get the £60, just the tax on it. HMR&C considers £60 to be the annual cost of washing your uniform and allows you to claim the tax back on it. It's about £12 a year, it just happens that if you add up the last 6 years that amount also comes to £60.

If you are one of the agreed trades you may get more though.

Once you get it it comes off your future years too - again worth around £12 at current rates.

Basically for most people though it's worth £12 a year not £60.

If you want an estimate of how much it's worth there is a calculator here: https://www.uniformtaxrebate.co.uk/calculator/default.aspx

I get it, thanks TM, I wasn't aware of that! I've not been claiming for this for a few years since I last claimed so a little out of touch with the facts.

    Thanks again

Hi I'm a part time lifeguard/cleaning, for the last few years and in the 20% tax bracket. Got a logo on the t-shirt and gets washed alot as its rather a sweaty job. I think I'm in the £55/80 band for public sector cleaning

I've seen the letter at the beg of this thread. Who do we send this to? Inland rev or tax office for company?

I worked for the council until they got a private contractor in to run the pool. Who do I put down?- I'm still on council contract.

    Thanks!

You send the letter to the tax office named on your P60 which you should have received or will do shortly. You dont have to say who your employer is as the reference number relates to them.

Does seem a bit over the top. What did you write on the original letter?

I sent the template letter that was posted on this thread somewhere.

Has anyone else had the same letter as me yet?
