Just wrote out the letter with the aid of the template.

Do I need my employers address on the letter?
Do I need the employers Tax ref on there?

You need to include your tax reference and your NI number.

  • I am a coastguard officer full time and have to wear and launder a uniform. We do not seem to be on the list from the uk tax office, though the fire and police are, no surprise there though I guess  no one seems to know we exist lol. I have sent off the template letter anyway worth trying.

If your job is not listed on the HMRC website, first of all check with your union whether there are any locally agreed allowances. If not, then its down to you to make a claim for what you consider is reasonable.

  • Hi guys, this is all very interesting reading... have worked out what hubby can claim thanks to fengirl :)

Just wondering if my brother in law can make a claim... he works for Dyno-rod - very smelly work! He is supplied with overalls & clothing which he washes daily, he buys his own safety boots.

Can he claim the laundry expense? if so how much? or is there a flat rate expense he can claim which would include the laundry...

    Thank you
