    Thank you,
now trying to work out the dates for when I worked in a pharmacy a few years back. Would I just have to include dates and job title for when I worked at different jobs up to 6 years back? Plus obviously NI number, the employers etc.

Also, in the pharmacy job I was on a zero hour contract meaning there were periods I was taxed and periods I wasn't, would the tax office be able to calculate what I'm due based on that (I assume based on my total tax from each year)?

Yes, you don't need to supply totally accurate dates, what matters is the tax years if falls in. If you have something of the 03/04 tax year make sure you get your claim in as soon as possible as you won't be able to claim an adjustment on this after 31 Jan.

Doesn't matter as long as you paid tax in the year.

    Hello there

my husband is just doing his tax return. He is an employee of a company, has a uniform to wash and maintains his own tools for his work, which the company do not supply.

He does a tax return becuase we have a BTL property. We contacted the tax office and they said we could claim £80 a year tax relief for uniform washing and tools maintenance. They said to write in for the previous years he has been at his job and they would reassess his tax returns and issue a refund (still waiting). For this tax return (08/09) they said to enter the allowance on the tax return. My husband says he cant find where to put it in. Does anyone know or have we been given the wrong information?

    cheers guys

The fixed rate deduction goes in the expenses in employment box on the employment pages.

Cheers Fengirl. Is it question 18 - fixed deductions for expenses or question 20 - other expenses and capital allowances.?

    thanks, really appreciate this.

@lightisfading - you can go back up to 6 yrs for any claim.

So if we put a claim in today, which tax years could we claim for?

  • Ive been in the same job since 1997 in engineering manufacture. As a part of my job i have to wear overalls, which can get quite dirty and need to be washed separately at least once a week. im also provided with a logo'd T shirt ( two ) that also needs a daily wash, and on top of that i also have to provide my own safety footwear at my own cost.
Would i be able to claim, and if so would i expect to get anything?
