Hello all, these may seem like silly questions but thought I would ask for your help. I work for a supermarket and I am required to wear a uniform but currently work few hours so that I am not currently taxed. Is there any point writing in for this? From what I understand the rebate is in tax so I wouldn't get anything back for this. In previous years I have had 2 jobs in a restaurant and also a call centre where I did pay tax. I was required to wear a uniform for the restaurant but in the call centre I had to wear formal clothes. I know that the formal clothes bit doesn't constitute a uniform but I should be able to claim for the restaurant. Is this correct?0

If you dont earn enough to pay tax, then you wont be due any tax relief, so no point.
Yes, you can claim the fixed rate expense allowance for workers in the food industry for when you worked in a restaurant.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
If you haven't paid tax you can't claim any tax back. Do you have your P60s for the previous years, if so you can claim for this and you should do as after 6 years you will no longer be able to claim.0

There is nothing to stop her trying! She could explain about all the protective gear she needs to buy and the necessity of laundering these items regulalry because of spread of infection, etc.
There is never any harm in trying anything!
Do you think claiming washing uniform at home allowance AND agriculture allowance is too far! (does the acriculture allowance have part for cleaning clothes?)0 -
The agricultural allowance is designed to cover all the expenses likely to be incurred by an agri worker, eg laundry, protective clothing and footwear. If you can show that you incurred more than the fixed rate allowance in any year, it is open to you to make a claim.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Thanks fengirl, thought so. Just got a case of 'pushing my luck' syndrome. Gone away now and brain in gear.0

Ok, very unsure how to do this. I've only been in my job for a few months and am about to move onto another one (both with uniforms) am I able to write to them now so that I can claim back on my current job?0

You can claim for each job but you may aswell wait until you are in the next one as you will only have to write once.0
