I have recently left a production job within the paper and board industry, a position I held for 12 yrs.
I had a company uniform (logo on) which I had to wear, was not suitable for any other purpose and had to wash this after almost every shift (several pieces of kit provided).
I cannot find this industry on the HMRC list :
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/eim32712.htm
Does this mean I cannot claim? I cannot see the difference between this and other manufacturing industries listed there. Obviously, if I find that a claim is permissable I will have missed out on several years which are now 'out of date'.0 -
Just because its not on the list dosent mean you cant claim, my industry isnt on the list, i presume they just put you in the next appropiate section0

what category do you work in and what similar one did they use to classify? Did you contact hmrc to claim?0

About what classifies as uniform...
I am "meant" to wear company uniform, trousers, blouse and stupid air-hostess style tie. I do not wear the company trousers at the moment as I the ones they supplied me with were at least 4inches too short!! Also durring my pregnancy i refussed to wear the uniform trousers as i was not given MATERNITY trousers until i had 16 days left to work! yes, really. :-|
my blouse and scarf have company logos on.
is there any downside to this at all? does it affect a claim for working families tax credit for example?
becuase i worked 3 and a half years with one employer this time, so really hope i'm able to do this.
thanks in advance
Also, my employer has a washing machine onsite, but staff are NOT allowed to use it for uniforms. (except maybe twice a year someone will tidy up the spare uniforms and put the dusty ones in the machine)Julie0 -
hello,
im new to this site and looking at ways for us to save money getting good tips! Both myself and my hubby work at the same factory and we are provided with tshirts, sweatshirts trousers and tabbards all with the factory logo on them.IV worked there 15 years, hubby 5 years just wanted to ask because the factory does supply a laundry service for the men`s trousers and tabbards but we have never used the laundry service.Would this apply to us or not because the factory supplies a service to laundry the uniform?
Cheers if anyone can make this a bit clearer for me.0 -

If you choose not to use your company's facilities. I don't think a claim would stand up. However, what is your job - you can claim the fixed rate expense deduction in any case as it is designed to cover special footwear, small tools etc.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
