Im after a bit of help if I may.
At work I and my friend applied for the clothes credit. We both earned the exact amount per month had the same tax code until it changed around September time.
In sept my tax code changed to 603L along with his, I applied for the clothes credit a month before him and I got a letter back within a week or two stating my tax code will be changed from 603L to 630L... within the letter I received I four pieces of information.
Personal allowance £6035
flat rate job +£60
earlier years adjustment +£208
tax free amount £6303
in my October pay cheque my tax code had changed 630L I paid £152.99 in total deductions.
This month I thought I’d receive a similar figure in my net pay but I was shocked to see I was down £27... (We are paid on a set date each month and in previous months i always received the same every month, I have had no pay rises either so that can’t be why my pay has fluctuated)
So what has happened to that £208 overpaid tax I have paid..? I'm presuming that it isn’t coming of my tax as I’m earning less as the year progresses.
For the last 3 months this is my tax and wage... I’ve earn’t the same gross pay in all these months.
Sept:- tax 134.39 Paid :- 945.84 (worked this out correct due to the £60 rebate) Tax code was 603L here
Oct :- tax 152.00 Paid :- 927.24 (tax code change to 630L here)
Nov:-tax 179.99 Paid :- 900.44
We both backdated to the same date in 2004, we also have been there since the same day.
My friend on the other hand sent the same letter (it was a template) with the same details and he received the same information on his letter except the £208 overpaid tax but received a cheque for £40 and loads of other info from the HM Revenue, I couldn’t tell you what they are because I don’t have them to hand..
He claims his tax code is now 609L
If this is all correct I wont peruse this with work or HM Revenue.. & basically what do I have to do to claim this £208 back?
Sorry for all the babbling and the long post.

Thanks for this thread! I've haven't managed to read the whole thing.. but can I just confirm that the information in the first post is up to date. Is it really as simple as writing that letter? No forms to fill in?!! I've had 3 different nurse postition since 2002... I guess I just add those to the letter. Also, how do you know if you tax code is already adjusted to consider uniform washing.
thanks and sorry if all this is mentioned elsewhere.:o£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
