airmatt, you can claim back up to 6 years. Please not it is NOT a laundry issue - it depends on the type of job you were doing.
gems. HMRC should reiumburse your overpaid tax by cheque - not elast because the tax rates were higher in previous years.

I got a letter saying that they were going to amend my tax code, but the fat cheque I was hoping for hasn't arrived.

gems - you are entitled to a refund by cheque. The basic rate of tax for previous years is 22% and 25%. By altering your code for this year in repsect of previous year's relief, you are only getting tax relief at 20%. You need to write and point this out.

  • Hi a couple of guys at work have written about this and both have received a letter today saying there tax code will be adjusted rather than a refund for previous years. Can they ask for a refund by cheque.
  • They have just called the tax office and have been told this is how they are doing now and they will not get a cheque refund

they need to check that the allowance in their code numbers accurately reflect the tax relief due and that it is not just £x times the number of back years.

I am going to do this from my previous job as a sales assistant.

Worked 2 years in a shop, with company logo'd items, so in theory I can claim £60 per year (so £120) for the laundry I did whilst there?

Hi wrote off for Husband. Now had letter altering his code from 603L to 630L and according to letter £205 to come back which looks like he will get back through his wage. However, they have only gone back 05/06. Someone posted earlier this month that they got back to 02/03. He has been in employment there since approx 03 and I have his p45 for 03/04 and 04/05 so wondered if it was worth sending them and asking if they would consider these years also????????????
