Wash your uniform at home ?

Hi. I'm a dental nurse so its very important to have a clean uniform on every day. my uniform doesn't have our practice logo on it, does that i mean i'm not eligable for this? I've been a dental nurse for 6 years and have always had to wash my own uniforms.
Any help you have would be gratefully received.....0 -
I think you would come under nursing staff - look under fixed rate deductions on the HMRC website. The absence of a logo is irrelevent as one would not normally wear a dental uniform to go clubbing in.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

I havent read the whole thread in detail but have skimmed over it. So just to summarise is the following correct?
Your uniform has to have a company logo on it
You can can tax relief on £60. So if I write my letter and send it off now my tax code will increase by the £60 for this year.
I will get a tax refund on previous years I am claiming on up to six years previous
Is that right?
Also, your employer does not provide laundry facilities which you could use. Note that if they do and you choose not to use them, then you can't claim. Well you could but its likely the claim will be refused.0 -
Hi guys, sorry if this has already been covered somewhere in the thread, i did try to read it all.
My mum works as a receptionist in the NHS. She has her blouse provided (a horrible navy blue thing with multi coloured squares on it lol) It has no logo but she does have to wear an NHS badge with her identity on it.
She is obviously susceptible (sp?) to any infections in the hospital and therefore washes her blouses at a high temperature, seperately to the rest of her everyday clothes (she provides her own trousers/skirts which are just plain black so wouldn't attempt to try and claim for those)
Would she be entitled to claim for this allowance?0 -
Many thanks to the OP - I have saved this and will be getting my OH to write to his previous tax office. He was with his last job for 11 years so 6 years of reclaiming will be rather handy and he can just make sure that he gets his tax code for this year changed to accommodate the refund as he has another uniform!LBM - August 2008 - Debts then - £33390 - 2nd LBM - November 2009 - Debts then - £18500:mad:
Current debt levels: OD £3860, Loan 1 £6091, Loan 2 £5052, Parents £260, Total £16133  As at 01 May 2012 - 51.69% paid off :j

Does anyone know if I can get anything,
I worked in a supermarket for 4 years part time and didnt earn enough to pay tax anyway, I don't work there anymore but can I get anything back for wahsing my uniform?0 -
Gemma, as you didn't pay tax, you cannot be due a refund.
Bonsibabe, your husband should write to his present tax office as that is where his tax records will be held.
Bravobeastie - I don't think there is a fixed rate deduction for receptionists - it seems unlikely. She would have to write to her tax office and make a case for an allowance for washing at high temperature - I dont think there would be a strong case as how can she quantify the addditional cost of a hotter wash than usual?£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
