Hi all, I'm a vet nurse, wear a uniform and have to wash it myself. There is a washing machine at work for all the pet bedding which in theory I could use but it's not very hygienic to wash your tunic with a dog bed covered in poo and hair! Would this be classed as the facilities being available or not? I don't have to purchase my own uniform but I am required to buy my own clogs, can I claim money back for this if I don't have the receipt anymore? Or at all anyway?
Any ideas?

Hi,
Hooray I just got back my answer from the tax man & I've been credited £45 per year back to 2002-2003 so definitely worth doing & I'm now on a new code for future years. Also as I work from home & therefore use elecricity and heating whilst working I have been awarded a further £104 per year.
Sadly as I am currently bogged down in making over payments following the revenue messing up my company car benefits there will be no cheque for me. Still it's a bit less to pay back.
I do have a couple of questions though & would be really grateful if any of you know the answers:
As instructed via other members on this and another forum on the MSE website I asked for £60 per year for clothing and £3 a week for the working from home credit.
Without wishing to seem too grasping - were these figures wrong or do you have to negotiate with HMR if it is possible to get these amounts and not accept their first offer?
If these amounts were wrong have I broadly got the right amount & how does HMR arrive at that?
Also if this figure increases over time to keep up with inflation will HMR add this automatically as it relates to the tax code or do you have to re write to them?
Cheers:beer:

The figures are worked out with unions IIRC, it used to be £45 and has gone up to £60 so they do review it.0

Hi again,
I got a new coding notice through the door today & it shows that, yes for this year the amount allowed for laundering the uniform has gone up from £45 to £60. My heating/electric allowance for having to work out of home has also gone up from £104 to £156
Thanks to all who've posted tips on this forum it has certainly been worth the price of a 2nd class stamp.
