"No tax relief is due for expenses incurred in laundering Amry uniforms, as the Army has advised H M Revenue and Customs that laundry facilities are made available to emplyees."
Now anyone that is a soldier or is married to one will know that there aren't any free facilities to wash the uniform and I think my husband is going to show the letter to his CO and see what he says and ring the tax office up.
I am aware that the army does provide a free laundry system; you hand your kit in and it is returned to you washed (but not ironed to 'parade' standard) 7-10 days later!! Considering that you are supplied 3 uniforms and the nature of the work/training often requires 2 x kits per day, the laundry service that is provided is totally unrealistic.
Saying that laundry is provided to Army personnel is nothing more than a play on words in my opinion!!0 -
Thinking on the Army aspect of tax . . . . . .
A haircut is required for the usual weekly parade & inspection; boots to be highly polished, depending on which or who's parade, bulled to a glass-like finish.
As these are a compulsory requirement of the job, are the costs of 1 x haircut per week and 1 x tin of Kiwi Black Parade Gloss likely to be able to be claimed for?0 -

While we're on, how about blanco and Duraglit or are these no longer a part of todays modern army ? Ooops that's given my age away :rotfl:0 -
I don t have to wah my uniform anymore but when I worked for Hilton for 3.5 years I did can I claim for that time?
Thanks2014 = New Year, New Me0 -
Provided that the time you worked for Hilton fell within the last six tax years then you should be able to make a successful claim for the whole time you worked there. You will only be able to claim back any allowances which you are entitled to which fell due in the previous 6 years.0

Just out of interest, how long should it take from writing the letter to the tax office to hearing anything about your claim?
Thanks0 -

Think it depends on the individual tax office. Mine was in Wales, and I got a (successful) response within 4 weeks, with a rebate cheque for the earlier years 2 weeks after that.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

my girlfriend works in a nursery and she has to buy 5 sweatshirts, 5 polo shirts and 5 jogging trousers from her nursery from her own pocket. also she does alot of craft work with the kids and she regularly gets stuff like paint on her uniform. to get the stains out she has to use expensive stain remover to get the uniforms looking acceptable.
so can she claim for the 5 sets of uniforms she pays for her self? and also can she claim extra for the use of expensive stain removers?
how much would she be looking to get back?
she has been working there 7 years now.0
