Hello ,i work in a factory were overalls are provided and are washed by an outside firm, but i wear a t-shirt underneath my overalls that has the company logo on and i have to wash it at home .The t-shirt and overalls get covered in glass fibre so i shouldn't really be using my home washing machine to wash the t-shirts and socks from work .Do you think i would be entitled to claim and how do you find out what tax office to send the form .
Thank you Paul.0 -

Must depend on which tax office, as I had mine back within a month. New tax code for this year plus, a week later, a cheque for £48 overpayment in the last 6 years.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Hi
My hubby works in a foundry, although a uniform is not supplied, he comes home BLACK from head to toe, his clothes including underwear and socks are absolutely filthy every day, and he also gets covered in sand, the mess left behind in the washing machine is awful, I have to give it a complete wipe around after doing any of his work clothes, its all over and in the door seals and the drum has to be given a wpe also, can he apply for this rebate?

Yes, washing his dirty work clothes is an allowable deduction. However, I feel that foundry workers must come under certain trades which have fixed rate expense deductions agreed with HMRC to cover such costs.
Go to www.hmrc.gov.uk and search under fixed rate expenses or deductions and look on the list to see if his job is there.
For anyone wishing to claim for laundry, etc etc, its a good idea to first look at the fixed rate deductions list to see if your job is there. For instance, when I was doing this kind of work at the tax office, there was a fixed rate deduction of £25 for workers in the food industry which would cover all you Pizza Hut and Tescos workers.
Any chance of making this a sticky?£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
