Hi, I am sorry but I haven't read through all the posts.
My partner is a police officer and has been for 4 years. He has to wash his trousers, shirts and fleece at home and I was wondering if he was eligable for this tax rebate. If so how much would he get?

I at least deserve something for washing clothes covered in CS spray every day!

What the bleedin' 'ell is he doing, CS everyday. I think you should tell you OH that it's not aftershave. :rotfl:

Been reading this post and noticed it started in 2005.

Should i still use the same template and quote £45 per year or has this amount risen???

The table of fixed rate expense allowances are here:
    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/EIM32712.htm

HMRC can also agree local rates for particular employers - and employers should  normally be aware where this is the case.

The rates have been increased, per this:
    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/employers-bulletin/bulletin27/freas.htm

Could we PLEASE have a sticky for this as this is such a long thread for a minor issue!

    Hi all,

I wear suits to work and have them dry cleaned regulary. Do you think this will count?

No, only expenses incurred wholly exclusively and necessarily in the performance of your duties qualify. Your suit can be worn outside of work.

Where did you send your letter to in January ?
I reckon that you should have sent your letter to the tax office that your company deals with. If you sent it to another one (local one perhaps ?), hopefully if you supplied enough details they will forward it on. I have heard however that due to cutbacks, they are somewhat stretched at times. It took them about 6 months to deal with my claim but we got there in the end.
