I'm going to write to my tax office to see if I can claim for the last six years.
But i'm currently on maternity leave from work (previously worked fulltime).
Will they send me a cheque or reduce the amount of tax I pay when I return to work, as I only plan to go back a few hours and so I would'nt be paying any tax anyway.
Has everyone recieved a cheque or just had their tax reduced ?0 -
I had my tax reduced, the amount of the refund was way below my monthly tax bill anyway.0

Hi, I am sorry but I haven't read through all the posts.
My partner is a police officer and has been for 4 years. He has to wash his trousers, shirts and fleece at home and I was wondering if he was eligable for this tax rebate. If so how much would he get?
I at least deserve something for washing clothes covered in CS spray every day!0 -
Hi,
When my son was younger he worked at MacDonalds and later Top man while at college, is he elligable to claim tax back for laundry?
At both jobs he had to wear a uniform neither of which he would have been able to waer outside work as you all well know. When Topman had a sale he often had to waer a tee shirt saying topman sale in large letters all across his back?
Can anyone enlighten me please?0 -
Good news everyone!
For anyone claiming this allowance, the rate is now a (whopping) £60, from 06/04/2008!

you will not actually be saving £60 a year as this is just the tax free allowance. you will be saving the amount of tax you would be paying on that £60. So if you are taxed at 22% you will actually be saving only £13.20 a year0 -

Thanks to this thread my hubby has been in touch with the tax office today and found out his tax code is wrong and is being changed accordingly. He is a policeman and yes there IS an allowance for laundry. He also asked about boots seeing as he has to buy his own. The person on the other end of the phone has told him his allowance is 160! So thanks again for bringing this to our attention.:T£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0

So please let me know if I got this right. I work for Lloyds Pharmacy where I have to wear a uniform which was supplied to me. We have to wash our uniforms ourselves. Does this mean we are intitalled to the allowance? Wow that will make us all very happy if it is.0
