Thank you for the tip about reclaiming washing a uniform, my husband is a mechanic and I spend at least £5 washing his overalls each week.
Well done for this tip, I'm going to see if he can claim his tax back.

Therefore, talk to your employer, he has a lot more to lose than you have to gain. If he’s happy send in your photos.
The tax office also wrote to my employer. HR just called me up asking why I've been writing to the tax office! anyway..the letter sent to my HR dept also had this line:
"a permanent and conspicuous badge or logo to what would otherwise be ordinary clothing is not enough to make it a uniform."
My HR dept are going to reply confirming that my work clothes( polo shirt, rugby shirt and fleece) are otherwise ordinary clothing with an embroided logo so do not match their criteria for a uniform.
So no pay out for me! nevermind..I'm only down the cost of the stamp, was worth a shot.0 -

thanks for this. my OH's work have uniforms they have to wash at home and none of them had heard of this.
also thanks to those people who had mentioned MAPs, I had no idea about these and looked into it further, looks like both my OH and his boss should be getting an extra 5p per mile tax deductions as the company only pay them 35p per mile expenses. also their expenses where not marked down as mileage so where being taxed as earnings. he's took all this info into work today to show his boss so they can rectify it. hopefully he'll be due a nice rebate! so thanks guys!0 -

The other day in work, our Union bulletin mentioned something about our allowance being changed from 55 quid to 110 quid.
This was news to us all, as no one knew about it, at all.
I called the tax office and my code was changed.
My collegue called 10 minutes after me, and was told that hers would be changed, but not for addition tax relief on £110 that I got, but on £450 -
As a telecom engineer who is supplied with workwear embroidered with the company logo I've also managed to successfully claim this allowance.
Just had a letter from the tax office advising that my allowance for this is £100 per year, and they are backdating (with interest as well) the last 6 years
However, far from looking forward to a nice cheque for the backdated amount they are insisting that I cannot have a cheque, but will make the adjustments in next years tax allowanceAnyone know if this is correct ?
Oh (and going slightly OT as well) I also bring home my company supplied mobile, laptop & cordless drill amongst other things to charge up @ home .... can I also claim an allowance for these ?
Thanks
