KTBennet, the change to your tax code will mean that less tax will be deducted from your earnings. You will receive the benefit of the increase in your tax code through your regular pay, which should be a bob or two higher than last week/month.

    Hi

My hubby works in a foundry, although a uniform is not supplied, he comes home BLACK from head to toe, his clothes including underwear and socks are absolutely filthy every day, and he also gets covered in sand, the mess left behind in the washing machine is awful, I have to give it a complete wipe around after doing any of his work clothes, its all over and in the door seals and the drum has to be given a wpe also, can he apply for this rebate?

My o/h works on railway maintenance and comes home filthy everyday, I am always asking him why he doesnt check out if he can claim against this, my washing machine is always on the go, and in the winter months its horrendous not only washing but drying the cothes and because hes out all weathers he wears several layers, a machine load EVERDAY!

    Hi Folks,

I have to wash at least 60% of my workwear at home in my washing machine. My employer only wash my overall trouser and jacket. I have to wash my polo t-shirts, jumpers, high vis-body warmer and hat.
Can I claim a tax relief for these items that are washed at home??

No, normal wear does not qualify for any form of tax relief - we all have to launder our clothes!

Sorry I didn't explain clear enough, the t-shirts, jumpers, hi-vis and hats are provided by the company and are the only cloths allowed to be worn at work. I have to change at work into a differant set of work cloths at work and I am not allowed to wear any work cloths home. I have even got 2 seperated lockers. I work in a flour mill.

I think you will find that as a worker in the food industry, you are entitled to a fixed rate deduction. Follow the link on my post above.
