Why don't we get these anymore?
It was cost a fortune to send a tax coding notice to every UK citizen. They're only sent out these days if the code changes for whatever reason (the annual increase does not count).
To guarantee to qualify for the laundry allowance, you need to meet the following conditions:
1. Have a uniform with a logo
2. Not be provided with laundry facilities by your employer (whether you choose to use them or not)
The normal allowance is currently £45/year (£40 in previous years) but may be higher depending on the industry you work in.Quidco savings: £499.49 tracked, £494.35 paid.0 -

I sent the letter to the tax office asking for allowable expenses for washing my uniform at home, they have replied after 3 months!! saying they have written to my employer(s) and will come back to me with the outcome.
I have 2 jobs, one is a dinner lady a tabard provided expected to be worn and washed at home. 2nd new job now main job. I have to work weekends sometimes at exhibitions wearing logo t-shirt and sweatshirt which again I have to wash myself.
So why the Spanish inquisition with me, when others just get it from a letter or call?
When I first called to ask I was told, no problem you will get 2 lots as 2 jobs just write in to tell us. They now say IF I am allowed to have allowance you can only have it once and on 1 job only. Is this correct?
Many thanks0 -

I have followed the advice in the thread and just after Christmas I received a new tax code confirming £93.00 in respect of two previous years and £45.00 for this current year. I have now received my notice for 2007/2008 which confirms the £45.00 for that year.
However, did I drop a clanger by advising them so close to the end of the tax year as I have only had a benefit of approx 3 months in respect of my previous two years or is there some way of claiming this back. Think I know what the answer is!0 -
After writing last year finally got a letter from tax office confirming new coding for remainder of this year which includes backdated amounts back to 02/03 tax year then next day a letter arrived with coding for next tax year
Apparently hubby gets £55.00 per year allowance plus we got £230.00 backdated.
Did have to send two letters and chase them up with a phone call to get a result but was worth it in the end!!0 -
It looks like some MOD personal wants to know if they will get the allowance if their base does not have any wasking things. And does this apply to Police as well. I think that the above is the most important people to deal with first after all they are protecting us.
As people have asked about fire officers I need not to ask again, but please do reply if you know that MOD, Police and fire offers are allow to have this tax allowance for wasking kit. Dont let them down.0 -

The new code will automatically backdate to the beginning of the year to give you the full allowance.Quidco savings: £499.49 tracked, £494.35 paid.0
