  • I did this a few months back. Im a staff Nurse in the NHS and I got a small sum of money in with my pay plus my tax code has been re-adjusted!
    It does work! :-)
    Total Debt
    Was £4145.81now £0.00
  • I sent off the letter in OP to tax office for OH.

Got a reply asking to confirm a few things, replyed.

Got letter today saying yes he was entitled to £45 per year. They have backdated for last 6 years - great! But they have worked out new tax code which includes this years £45 allowance and all the backdated allowences £287!! so increased his code from 503 - 536. I think this is a bit of a cheek really as he will now get what he's over paid drip fed over the rest tax year and I was really looking forward to a wind fall as our car is in dire need of repair work. Do you think I would get anywhere by acalling to ask for a stright refund of the £287?

    Thx
  • We got £45 extra tax allowance as well and back dated for 6 years. But this only works out at £9.90 per year in actual extra money. If they say it costs £45 to wash the uniform shouldn't we pay £45 less tax per year not £9.90.
  • Mine worked as well!
Despite not being nursing staff, I still have to wear a (storesperson) uniform and go out onto the wards so I though I'd give it whirl...
It took about three weeks for the letter and the new tax code to come through, and they've back dated it for the four years of my employment with the hospital trust.
Will keep the thread posted on when and if I get a tax rebate or just pay a bit less each month ....
  • hello!
I think I need to send my letter off to the Lothians Inland Revenue Office, but I can't find an address for it. Don'T suppose anyone else would know it?

Silly me! the next page I got and I found it. It's Saughton House
    Broomhouse Drive
    EDINBURGH
    EH11 3XR
if anyone else needs it. Not sure if this is the right address I should be sending to really, but will try!

i just recieved a letter from HM customs, they only gave me a new tax code.

i am not working as i am studying atm,and put a claim in for 7years uniform allowance and asked for a rebate if due.
on the letter it shows that +45 was added for personal allowance but -125 taken off for van benefit? i only used the company van for 3 months this tax year? so i dont know why they have taken -125 from my tax code?

there is also no mention of any rebate on this letter? do you think they will send another letter out confirming if i am due any rebate?
another thing to mention is that after applying for the refund my last employers contacted me saying that they overpaid me on my last pay packet when if left.

i think applying for the rebate flagged up the overpayment by my last employers if it really is an overpayment.
  • I posted off my letter to the tax office my employer used and got a letter (yippee i thought, its my cheque) asking me what i have been doing since 2004 to now. I wrote saying im not claiming any benefits as i am not entitled to anything, posted this letter off last week. Today i got another letter ( got a tad excited thinking it was a cheque) asking the same questions, only this time no prepaid envelope to send back the reply, i put that since 2004 i have been looking after my daughter since she was born in 2004 and have not claimed any benefits whatsoever. Will keep you posted as to what the outcome will be.

Called up the tax office, and told them i sent off the letter requesting information. The guy on the phone said when did you post it,i replied 30th August, then he said that the office is dealing with post received one day at a time and that they were dealing with post received on the 27th August, and to call back in three weeks!! Very quick to take the tax but drag their feet in paying it back.

I think my employer has this covered to make sure that we lose out and they don't. I have to wear a full uniform and get some dry cleaning vouchers to help with this. I wash my blouses at home though as the dry cleaning vouchers don't cover them. I guess I can't claim though as I get some vouchers. I suspect that the cleaning of the blouses would be included in my tax code anyway.
