Police officers can also claim an allowance. Check with force HQ and tax office I think it's £60 for uniform and about £175 for the PF subscription.

I just spoke to the tax office and they stated that I'm not allowed a the tax benefit as I'm a Manager and for some reason only the Staff at my place of work are entitled to it. I work 'on the floor' and wear a uniform with a company logo on it, so why aren't I allowed this break?
I have to now write to the tax office to defend my right to have this item on my tax code!!!!
Can someone please help me write this letter and unsure what to write!!"I AM THE GATEKEEPER OF MY OWN DESTINY" Nacho Libre

Hi
Can you apply for tax back if you no longer work at the applicable company? I worked somewhere with a uniform for 5 years but haven't worked there in a couple of years now....
Thanks!0 -
I would think so, if you owed them money from 5 years ago you would have to pay it back.Dec, Nokia E71 | Mar, Senseo CM |0

Many thanks to the OP
Just got our letter back today, updated our code to 287 & a £63.10 refund for the last 6 years
I guess 22% / 23% is the rate of tax we pay?0 -
I have been working at Tesco for two years and I always wash my uniform (which bears the Tesco logo) at home. Is there a good chance I will be able to claim any money from the tax office?
What is the process for making a claim? Who should I write to? What should I say?
Many thanks.

Does any know if this applies to the military, where some of our clothing is laundered, but not work shirts socks t-shirts, and things you need quickly instead of waiting for the two week turnround.0
