I sent the template letter in with all the information required.......and they duly sent me a letter back saying I hadn't stated my occupation, so I had to ring them and alert them to the last line of my letter that very clearly states my occupation doh!!!
So I didn't have high hopes for much after that, but received 3 letters for new tax codes for the last 3 years. My head is being fried with tax at the mo so just ignored it
Then I received 4 different tax calculations for 08-09, 09-10, 10-11, 11-12 and they've awarded £60 in each of the years, but as they feel I owe them money (when indicdentally I don't) I obviously won't get a cheque, hey ho at least there is a bit of gain!Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Think that's a first, have heard of people getting a new code for the year we're in and one for next year but have never heard of this before - how is your employer meant to go back in time and use the code for 2011:12 :huh:0 -
can self employed claim uniform cleaning as expense? e.g.self employed but work in a franchise so therefore have a compulsory uniform to maintain0

I should think so, you would claim as an expense In your self employed accounts....0 -
This is probably a REALLY stupid question... my teenagers both have part-time jobs in a supermarket. The company sorted out their tax codes to take account of uniform cleaning as part of their induction. However, they don't pay tax and it is myself that incurs all the expenses involved. Can the allowance be transferred to me?If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0

thanks will definitely try this:)0

thanks for starting the thread, would you mind updating the OP though to help eliminate some recurring questions, for example:
- it would help to state that the standard (default) claim is £60 unless you qualify for a higher rate as shown on one of the tables
- you only get back the tax you pay on the amount claimed, you do not get back £60, you get back 60 x 20% = £12 (provided you actually pay tax to start with)
- you can only go back 4 years not 6 and this is a rolling period meaning there are time limits by which you must claim - see the table on this link http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/overpaid-thro-job.htm. The earliest you can now claim for is from April 2009 (ie 09/10)0 -
I sent off the standard letter to HMRC for hubbys work uniform that we launder at home and he got a letter back with 4 years refunded by cheque and also a seperate letter with a new tax code for this year with the £120 allowance on it.
