Just seen this in Martins email and decided its worth a go
However I've read the guide and am confused. Martin says if you are a basic rate tax payer you can only claim 20% of £60 (£12). So how are people getting around £300 if you can only claim £12 x 4 years?
Probably missing something completely obvious here!!0 -
Hello. My other half is a traffic warden working for the council and has a full on uniform (trousers, shirts, jumpers, body warmer, coat, hat etc) and wondered what rate to claim for as can't see it on the list.I work for the National CoastWatch Institute. Wear Full Naval Type Uniform on duty but the TaxMan turned me down saying that the NCI was a Voluntary Job so as I was a Volunteer HARD LUCK NO MONEY>

well done for reading the guide first, seems you missed the link to list of occupations - £60 is the default rate unless your job is on List 3 (follow link from the guide) wherein are set out higher rates - the max (on shore job) being £140.
Also they may be claiming for other things as well (eg nurses only can claim for tights and shoes) or simply be so old that its back when you could claim 6 not 4 years, that said I doubt the varacity of some posts on this thread0 -
Cheers for the reply
I worked for a company from 2002 - 2007 where I wore uniform, could I claim from that long ago? I couldn't see this in the guide0 -
My husband wears several items in the course of his work as a Priest. This category does not appear on the Inland Revenue Occupation List.
Why not and is it still possible to claim for cleaning and repair of these clothes?
Best wishes

Does anyone know if you can still claim if you are self employed?0

I have 2 jobs that I wear uniforms at. Can I claim seperately for both jobs or is the £45 an annual allowance?0

You are right we do not paid as Volunteers but that should not preclude us from a Tax rebate.
I am lucky I worked non stop from 1953 until 2011 ie 58 years paying Tax all the time.
Due to non stop working I now get Three Pensions plus OAP on which I pay a great deal of Tax.
So why should I not get a rebate especially as we save the Government a great deal of money as they have and still are cutting down on Regular Coastguards round the Coast.
(One of my Pensions is for 20 years in HM Coastguard)0 -
Hi, after reading many posts I guess I should be entitled to this rebate as I have been a Postman since 2005.
I read some posts about postmen not being able to claim as their tax codes had been adjusted, so might seem a silly question but how do you know just by looking at a tax code if I am already getting this rebate and/or if I can apply?0 -

if you do claim then you can only go back 4 years (ie to 08/09)0
