I took the plunge and have written to HMRC today, been working in healthcare since 2006 and paying professional registration fees since 2009. Keeping everything crossed!

Ok, So I wrote my letter as instructed in your guide. I have received a letter today from 'Healthcare worker tax rebate' saying . . . As a recent visitor to our website please find enclosed a copy of the forms you will need to claim your tax rebate etc etc ....

Then . . .'We will charge our standard rate of £10 processing fee plus 20% commission on any tax we recover'

    So
    1. I haven't visited any website but yours and wrote a free letter straight to the tax office.
2.It says on the guide this is a free way to claim? I'm confused. Can someone please explain why they will take 20% commission etc

    Thank you

How have they managed to get all my details? NI number etc? Slightly worrying. I've just been on the phone to the tax office (who cut me off mid conversation) who say they haven't even got my letter yet. So how do these people even know I was looking into claiming a refund when I wrote a hand written letter? I they getting details from this website?

Do you think these people are intercepting letters somehow?

Or you sent your letter to the wrong address. What address did you use and where did you get it from?

You're not the first person to say this. It happened to somebody else who posted a couple of pages back.

So the first letter I received asking me to fill in a load of forms was a scam - trying to make money out of trying to do the claim for you. No idea how they got my details!

Anyway - I have now had two letters from HMRC - one adjusting my tax code for next year to 816L, and one saying my claim has been approved for the tax years 2008/2009 onwards (4 years is all you can claim apparently). I rang them to say I haven't received any rebate/cheque yet. The man put me on hold - when he came back he said they were running some further checks? Even though they've sent me an approval letter. How long did it take you all to get your rebate after your approval letter and tax code adjustment letter please?

    Thank you
