  • Dear all,

I was wondering if it was possible to claim from previous jobs?

I've been at my current job for nearly one year. I was at my previous job for seven years.

I'm going to write to HMRC at the end of this month, after I've finished working for one year. I will then try to claim back eight years of allowance.

Would I have to write separate letters for both jobs, or can I just combine?

    Regards!

yes - you can claim for any job where you had a uniform that was unique to that employer

do please read the guide , the answer is in there or just read the next post below yours from someone who's already read it

Got a reply today for the claim i sent in for my husband. :j

Hes got a new tax code gone from 773l to 843l Says ealier years adjustment £565, Flat rate job expenses £140.

They have only gone back 4 years and the total repayment is £112.95.

Doesnt say anything about a cheque so im guessing this amount will ocme of the tax paid?
  • i put in a claim for my son with his ok only to be sent a letter back saying that he already gets a flat rate expenses for his uniform thru his tax code he is a postman, god knows what that means, if any one does please let me know

    Interesting!

My hubby wears uniform and have been for all his working life, before the job he's doing now it was the steelworks.
I take it they go back so many years then? For eg 6?

it is very simple - look at his tax code , if it is more than 810 then it means he has a rebate built into his tax code

everyone really should understand the basics about tax codes
    read here

  • Sent my claim in on 23rd October today received a tax code change letter, with an allowance of £242 adjusment (partly due to early years overpayment). So no actual refund or cheque but will be paying less tax each month so not all bad I suppose. Cheque would have been nicer though (pls take note Mr TaxMan)

So in all if your uniform is tagged with your company logo, give it a go! Just follow the guide and sample letter like I did.

I'm writing a letter now for the jobs I had at Morrison's between 2007 and 2009 and the six weeks i was a christmas temp at waterstones last year.

I've put all the stuff in that Martin said to include in the guide, but I don't know how much I should claim for. Anyone got an idea for those time lines?
