Wash your uniform at home ?

as stated in the guide at #1 and many times in this thread, the DEFAULT rate is £60 if you meet the criteria for wearing a unifom, which is. in very simple terms
- non detachable logo sewn on to each piece AND
- required to wear it by the employer AND
- employer does not provide laundry faciltiies for use by the staff (ie, its available , not whether you choose to use it or not)
ONLY certain people get different rates as set out on the list, everyone else gets the default rate
BTW I doubt a nursery nurse counts as a healthcare worker so she will not get the nurse rate as I assume she is not employed in the NHS?0 -

I never said she would count as a healthcare worker, i was just asking where they'd fit in. No, she's not part of the NHS. Will just give HMRC the info & let them deal with the rest - "owt is better than nowt".

Just looking at the MSE article: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/uniform-tax-rebate
Stating:Your occupation, job title and industry sector
I'm going to sound dim now, but there's nothing i can do about it....
How do i know the industry sector?
One of the persons in question is a driver. Their driving is to serve the public, so is this a public sector? But the company is just a small family business, so private sector?
The other looks after children in reception class. Public because she's dealing with the public?
Aside from this, what's the definition of both? Let's take the dentist - you get NHS & private dentists. Are they public or private?
So go ahead & laugh at me not getting itBut please explain once you've picked yourselves up lol.

I sent off my letter to claim money back for 3 year dates covering jul 08 - jul11. so covers 3 tax years. i sent it 2 weeks ago and on friday i had a cheque from HMRC for just under £300 but the was no explaination that the money was for the uniform claim it just said that it was a income tax rebate for tax year 2011/2012. i have not had any other correspondence either relating to the clothing claim, so am unsure if what i have had is a normal tax rebate or the uniform one. Could someone who has been successful in getting the washing uniform rebate tell me if it is clear when you receive the payment that that is what it is for. Also i followed the instructions for the letter on MSE but it wasnt until i posted the letter that i realised there was no proof via wage slips/P60 or National insurance number is this correct? As i will be helping friends and family claim theirs and would rather get it correct for them straight off.0

I just recieved my partners letter confirming his new tax code adding £60 flat rate job expenses to it. But there is no mention of a rebate for the last few years - does this come seperately?0

I was made redundant in 2009 from a supermarket, we had to wear a uniform but with no laundry service provided, can I claim for this ?? I worked for the company for 20 years and wore a uniform for all that time! I am now working in an office and we are provided with work uniforms now too so going to claim for this0

I'm new to this forum so please forgive me if I've missed something....although I have read the guides, scanned all 80 pages and am about to draft my reclaim letter.
For the last 3 years I have had two jobs, both requiring me to wear uniforms which are supplied by my employers and they both have to be laundered at home. One job is full time (basic rate of tax) and the other is part-time, coded as BR. Not wanting to sound greedy, but do I just claim for my main job or can I claim for both??0 -
I find that surprising, armed forces have an allowance for laundry, haircuts, boot polish and other such incidentals included in their tax code.
Armed Forces personnel are entitled to have their uniform cleaned at public expense. JSP 886, Vol 6 I believe, covers it.

Hiya
Could someone please help me with couple of questions
In the letter for first time uniform refund can I claim for more then one company that I have worked for and write all the names for the places I have worked for in the last couple of years?
Or do I have to write separate letters for separate companies?
Does it meter how long you have worked there or does it have to be more then one year?
Thank you very much in advance for your help0
