    Hi
I am wondering if someone could help me. I sent a letterof to HMRC and got a response back within 2 weeks to say that they have looked into my claim for washing and buying some of my uniform and that my tax code will change but no refund with it ?? I have worked for my company for quite a few years will they now contact me with a refund for the max 4 years
    thanks

Just got a cheque for £315. Applied about 4 weeks ago , received a few letters in the interim period regarding code changes and then Bingo.

it is better that you understand why you are doing something arther than just being given a yes/no answer and having no idea why its right
  • I thought well i have nothing to lose so followed the template letter and sent it off. Within 6 weeks i had four years of tax calculations back and a cheque for £71. Thank you Mr Tax Man and MSE.

Im going to fill out the template letter for my husband and send it of. Only thing is do I need to specify how much expences im claiming for? As had a look at the table and not sure which my husbands job would come under. Hes a car builder. Works in a factory but the cars are build by hand.

Would it come under Vehicles then cat A Builders, railway vehicle repairers and railway wagon lifters?

He has to wear company issued boots, trousers, polo shirt, jumper and jacket.

Dont want to send letter asking for the standard allowance of £60 if he could come under the higher amount.

    Thanks in advance :)
  • How many colleagues does he have doing the same job?
When I worked as a fitter in a factory upon leaving school, I soon discovered that there was a "factory" rate for tools and overalls that my fellow workers were getting.
No point in trying to stand out if there is already a precedent but aim for the higher figure if trying to establish the precedent.
