  • I have claimed for myself and various colleagues in the past few years, it really is as easy as the letter above. I have no doubt lots of people have already said this but for the price of a stamp and printing out a letter you can get real cash back in your pocket. (I was able to do the same with union subscriptions also.....)
  • My husband is a chef and has to launder his own uniform. I sent off the letter (template provided by MSE) and he recieved a cheque for £698 (which had been backdated for 6 years). A few of my husband's colleagues asked for the template but when they sent it off they were told they weren't entitled to anything...still worth a go as you can only lose the price of a stamp.

Passed the template on to my brother who is a care worker and he got a cheque back for £864!

I worked in a Supermarket from October 2005 - April 2009 doing various jobs such as checkouts, trollies, meat & fish counter etc.

Since April 2009 I've been in an office job so usual office attire.

    Can I still claim anything back from my previous job? Say £36 , 2006 -2009 @ £12 a year?

I don't know what the tax office address for them is (Waitrose)

Not really sure how much to put on the template or if I can even still claim!

    Any help appreciated!

  • I just rang the tax office and asked if I was entitled to the uniform tax relief, they said I had the allowance of £60 but it has since increased to £100 for nurses so he had added this on to my tax code
  • Hi, Im new to all this, but wondered if it was worth me trying to claim, i have worked in a vets and wear a shirt/jumper with the practice logo/name on it so i definitely would'nt wear it socially! i have look on the list of jobs on the link and don't think i would come under any of those.

    Query for the other half.

She's worked at the same company since she was 16, but in different branches and started initially as part time before being full time (at the branch she is at now, she's been there for 2 years). She's moved up the career ladder to manager now but they have always had uniform.

She's now 24, so is it possible to backdate the payments?

What they didn't tell you was,

    1. You can also backdate the difference of £40 per year to 2008.
    2. You can also claim an allowance for shoes and tights of a combined value of £18 per year.
    3. You can also claim for your NMC fees and subs to other organisations such as the RCN and Unison.

sadly as you have appreciated you do not fall within the healthcare workers category however, you therefore simply fit into the everyone else category

please appreciate you will not get back £60, you will get back the tax you would pay on that amount , ie £12 if you are a basic rate tax payer

Yeah he has added on my unison fees and said he will refund me these payments since I started in 2009 but I asked about shoes and tight as MSE said I could get these too, but he said that it's all included in the allowance now. Thanks for the response :)

So this means we'll only get £48 ish. Which to be honest, has just made this a waste of time. .
most people would be grateful to get £48, not regard it as a waste of time. Your post came across as ungrateful and aggressive, I'm sorry if you took my very obviously impractical suggestion seriously :rotfl:

Or how about you wind your neck in and take that attitude elsewhere?
    ditto :D
