  • I used to work in Tesco and this was mentioned, can i still claim it although I now work somewhere else?
  • I'm sure this question has been asked but do you need to know the exact dates of employment? Or is just the month and year OK?

i.e. is it OK for me to say I was employed at Royal Mail from August 2007 until September 2008?

I asked about shoes and tight as MSE said I could get these too, but he said that it's all included in the allowance now. Thanks for the response :)
some HMRC call centre staff are not experts on everything, if the figure you have been given is £100 then they have not been included so refer them to their own guidance in which the rates are clearly set out
    nurse uniform £100

Yes - although you can only go back 4 tax years

you will probably be OK but can only go back 4 years from April 2012 - so to April 2008 only
read the MSE guide everything is explained in it - how much, how to claim etc etc

  • My husband claimed for 2 years uniform cleaning rebate--and ended up with a £200 tax bill! Would the underpayment have been noticed if he hadn't claimed the refund? As far as we know, the tax code was correct--and HMRC haven't sent any detailed calculations, despite us asking.

Yes it would have eventually as many on here will testify.

Have they given you any indication such as tax year/s involved?

Does your husband receive any taxable benefits or more than one income?
  • Hi , sorry if this is a stupid question but can I claim for a job I'm no longer in? I worked for a certain high street chemist for years until last January and wore their uniform all that time. I understand it can only go back 4 years but also wondering if I can claim a part year and the previous three? Also do I qualify if I am not currently a tax payer (no earnings since January but no benefits either). thanks
  • I want to see if i can claim some money back but do the HMRC get in contact with my employer as im a bit worried about my employer being upset and giving me grief? about getting a refund, Thanks
  • Hi there

How long have others had to wait for their rebate? I posted my letter off on 29th June and haven't heard anything.

    Many thanks

You'd normally have heard by now. There's a new tool on the HMRC website that gives generic advice on current repayment & general enquiry turnaround times...

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/tools/progress-tool/index.htm

This doesn't track individual items, but it gives an approx reply date based on the type of correspondence and date it was sent to HMRC.

  • employees in a factory are provided with protective overalls but have to wash the overalls themselves. In 1998/99 the employer makes a payment of 50p per week to each employee as a contribution to the cost. The overalls get so dirty that they need to be washed in a high temperature wash separate from other clothes. It is agreed that the laundry costs suggested in SE32455 are reasonable.
