Hi guys
I sent off the letter for my boyf back in april, received a new tax code letter 2nd may which states an extra £60 for flat rate job expenses. Had no refund, even though we claimed for the last 4 years. Unlikely to get one do you think?
Thanks0 -
Does this allowance only apply to employed workers or can a self employed person claim it also if they wear clothing specifically bought and used for the job?0

Self employed people keep their own accounts and claim their expenses from these against their profits.
The "tools and overalls" have to be a requirement of the job - as the lady barrister found out when she was only allowed to claim for the wig.0 -

My son wrote to the tax office about 3 weeks ago and has today received a revised PAYE coding notice, but no mention of a refund. Does he need to write again to ask for a refund? He won't be earning very much this year anyway as he is now a full-time student so could really do with the cash.

my OH is an engineer and is provided a uniform, the trousers are some kind of industrial material and are sent away weekly to be professionally cleaned, the rest of the uniform (with logo) is brought home for me to wash daily. Would he still be entitled to an allowance as the company wash part of the uniform? They have no washing facilites on site and nothing he could use to wash the rest of the clothes.0

My (non-expert) opinion would be that he could claim. What he should do is set out that information in his letter and hmrc can decide for themselves.Sealed Pot Challenge #239
