  • Hi all

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me. I've looked at the link from the first page and i'm not sure if i can claim or not. I'm a cleaner for a university and have been for the last 10 years, but i can't see a category for this. Anyone any ideas?? Sorry if its a stupid question, but i don't ask i'll never know! :D

Do you wear a uniform with logo or protective clothing? If so you can claim - but not otherwise.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

    Hi,
I wrote the basic template letter stating I washed my own Company uniform with logo on (fleece, polo shirt etc) and they wrote back(about 2-3 weeks ago) asking for info on what industry/type of job I did.
I gave them this info along with name of the company I work for and the fact that that the company does not provide a laundry service or any money towards me washing it. Maybe you should put all that info in your letter to save them having to write to you again?
Today I got several forms showing rebate figures (one for each tax year I've claimed for) along with a cheque for £52.53 and new tax code for the rest of this year and for next year. I must admit i did add up all the totals and thought I was getting more cheques for a further £100 - then i read it again - but hey-ho it's better in my pocket than theirs :j

It will be the basic £60 of relief. Just write giving your NI number and the employer ref (off the P60). Mention the company you work for and the fact it's for laundering a uniform with a logo. Let them fill in the amount.
But - the £60 is tax relief. So if you pay at 20% then it's worth (£60 @ 20% =) £12 in real money. You can go back 5 years if you get the request to them before 31st March. Only 4 years after that.

    Hi all

I recently came across this great money saving tip and thought I'd give it a go. Just recently received confirmation that I am eligible for a rebate and have now also rec'd a cheque for just over £50 and a new tax code Great!

There is one thing I thought I had better check though....The item I claimed for is a polo shirt with company logo. I work in a Care Home. But (and here's the sticky bit) I don't HAVE to wear the shirt. It's up to us what we wear. Mind you, I did not state I HAVE to wear it. Rather, I wrote:

"I am writing with a request to reclaim tax for the company polo shirt (with company logo) that I wear for work and am responsible for washing."

But i did notice in the article that one of the stipulations is that you are required to wear the clothing.

So... Do I keep quiet and if so could I get in trouble at all?

Also, is my employer likely to ask questions about it when they notice my tax code has changed?

    Many thanks

    Max

(UPDATE: I have started a thread of my own to address my questions, as this posted is starting to get a bit buried. Hope that is ok and within forum rules.)

    Hi there,
Could someone advise me please. I work as a cleaner and wear a tabard with the company logo, which I launder at home.
My husband has a work tee shirt with logo and a paint overall (this doesn't have a logo and is only worn whilst mixing paint) to protect his clothing, I also launder these at home. Am I entitled to claim the rebate?

    Thanks in advance.
