    Hi,

Looking at this site I see my partner can claim tax relieffor his uniform, he works for the railways, so if my understanding is correct hecan claim for the last six years?

So for 2006 to 2008 he would be claiming £70.00 then for2006 onwards he would claim 100? Is this correct

    Thanks for any advise

After reading the uniform cleaning rebate article a couple of months ago, I decided to have a go and submit a claim. I hears back today and I cant believe it £360.37. This has really made my day. I'm saving for my wedding next year, and this is will be a welcome addition. If you aren't sure whether or not to do it, have a go, you have nothing to lose. I even used a recycled stamp, so it has literally cost me nothing!!!!!!

You need to check his Code and see if it is included first? If it's above 747 then it likely is.
You can only go back 5 years now. And that drops to 4 years from 31st March.

Yes. Gamestation is 'retail' and Asda is 'food' or 'retail' as appropriate.

For 'uniform' that seems high. Did you also claim for professional subscriptions etc? Or is there a genuine PAYE overpayment also included?

If you have several year P800s .... it is the final figure on the last year P800 that shows the refund (Note '16' to the right of it). A lot make the mistake of adding them all up. HMRC have already done that .... that is what the 'adjustment' figure is on all but the 1st one.

Hi his tax code is 690L, and just to confirm I should be able to get to claim the different rates

    i.e.

No. It's £70 up to and including 07-08 and then £100 from 08-09.
    his tax code is 690L

..... you could do with checking his Coding Notice (P2) first to see why that is? There's £575 of allowances restricted for some reason. It's possible the restriction is higher and then there's an add back for uniform? Worth a look first.

Hi thanks for the quick reply, I believe the £575, is due to him receiving a benefit in kind namely his free travel (but I will check with him)

    once again cheers
