Sorry if this has already been raised, but my DD has to wear black clothes for work in retail, most supplied by her but jacket supplied by employer. There is no logo. She has to launder the clothes herself, can she claim?

No - the £60 is the allowance. At 20% tax - he will be £12 better off.

    but where is the rebate

The calculations will be on their way. The Coding Notice comes from a separate part of the system.

Highly unlikely. She can wear the jacket anywhere - and how often would you launder a jacket

There's several addresses. Just two of them :
Plaza Tower, East Kilbride G74 1LW
Queensway House, Stewartfield Way, East Kilbride G79 1AA

But if you don't have correspondence and it's PAYE - you should be writing to Liverpool?

Probably not. As there's a lot of sub-units operating from EK these days.

Liverpool is the correct address. Just make sure the letter head has the right heading re 'uniform allowance' and the NINO is correct and prominent.

    RE: Expenses Allowance

    NI number JR226**
    Employee number 867**

    Dear Inland Revenue

I have been employed at Network Rail, Milton Keynes as a Possession Controller since 12th October 2009. I was previously employed by Spring Personnel and working at Network Rail between 1st August 2008 and 1st September 2009.

From 1st August 2008 I have been required wear a Network Rail uniform.

I am obliged to launder the uniform, which is supplied to me by the company. There are no laundry facilities available to me. I therefore wish to claim an expenses allowance of £24 for each year since the above date.

    Yours Faithfully

    The letter is fine.

Looking at the chart (link at post #1) - the basic allowance for 'Railways' (all other workers) appears to be £100 :

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/eimanual/eim32712.htm

.......... so that's the figure to go in the letter.

(Incidentally - you would only get £24 out of a £60 allowance if you pay tax into the 40% band. Otherwise it's £12)
