There should be some P800s en route - telling you how its calculated. £45 seems a bit light for 6 years.
    Hi Thanks for your reply.
We have been sent a P800 but to us its as clear as mud :):).
It says Income for tax year 2010-11..£17975..tax paid £2299.20, then underneath it says...earlier years adjustment £171..totals £18146...tax paid £2299.20.
Then deductions from income flat rate job expenses £60, less total deductions £60
your income after taking away deductions £17744
Personal allowance £6475, less total tax allowances £6475
Income tax is chargeable on this amount £11269
    Basic rate at 20% £2253.80
    Tax chargeable £2253.80
    Tax overpaid £45.40
    Repayment due to you £45.40
    (received this cheque)
No new tax code given..just says your employer will receive a new coding notice shortly.

Looks to us like thats all we are getting??

Is there only the P800 for 10-11? As, where there is an earlier year adjustment, that is usually from previous year(s) P800s?

The £171 could be from the flat rate allowance (only £40 going back to 07-08?) from previous years? But - were that the case - I would expect it to be deducted from gross - not added on as it appears to be.

PS. Definitely something wrong with your figures! As the £17744 ...... is your gross for 10-11 (£17975 less the £171 and then less the £60) - which makes more sense. If we do it another way - you appear to have been allowed £171 for earlier years + £60 for 10-11. That (£171 + £60 = £231) generates a refund of £231 @ 20% = £46.20. The missing £0.80 relates to the fact your 10-11 tax due is £2300.00 rather than the £2299.20 deducted.

  • Can someone advise?

I am a practice nurse but dont wear a uniform as in tunic and trousers, but I do wear set items for work, black trousers and blouses. They still need regular washing as would a normal uniform, what do you think, am I eligible??

i sent off my letter about 6 weeks ago and have heard nothing yet
  • I completed this letter for uniform rebate in november along with some others at my work but we all got a tax code change rather than a refund so it's not always a guaranteed refund!!:(

Dubious - as you can wear the trousers / blouse anywhere.

As explained countless times in this thread. But - as we're 10/12ths of the way through the tax year then you get 80% of it back through payroll immediately and the rest within 2 months! So not really much of an issue - and saves trailing the cheque to the Bank.

Quite a few of my workmates in Royal Mail have written off to the Tax Office.

They have started to receive replies stating that their tax codes have already been adjusted to take the cleaning into account, but we can claim tax relief on contributions to our death grants via union subscriptions.

If any Royal Mail worker would like a copy of this standard letter,PM me.

Can you let me know what this is? Cheers
