My husband is a postman and wondering if he can claim anything as cant see postmen listed on the website, and also how to work out what we can claim back for the year? (he has worked there almost 3 years)
    Thanks

any idea how much staff at an outdoor activity centre can claim? I can't quite work out which of the HMRC categories they fit into.

Likely the basic rate of £60 (allowance) ..... if you have to wear / launder a 'uniform' ie clothes bearing a logo - and for which laundry facilities aren't provided.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

Read the quote directly above your post? What tax code is your husband on for 10-11?

Can you let me know what this is? Cheers

It says 'PM' me (ie Private Message me.). He / she is not going to pick that up from your post.

  • thanks to Martin, l wrote to the tax office, told them my details of 2 jobs for the last 5 years and got a wopping tax refund !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! over £600......thank you verrrrry much.
  • might seem a silly question but can company directors claim ??
  • Hello! I have just claimed with the tax office, as I have only been qualified 3 1/2 years and claiming for that amount of time they let me do it over the phone. I have claimed for uniform, shoes/tights, NMC professional registration and RCN membership. They have amended my tax code for this year to 786L and this will generate a refund in my wages (which I'm hoping goes through ok as I start a new job 6th feb and things may get mixed up) and they will calculate what they owe me for the past couple of years and send me a cheque :-)

I work as a cook in a school and not only do I have to wash my uniform but on a friday I have to bring home all the dish clothes and t towels to wash them on a boiled wash.
The thing is I dont pay tax because I only work 12 1/2 hrs a week.
Is there anything I can claim for?
  • A few weeks ago I wrote two letter one for my brother and one for my husband. My brother works for Royal Mail he didnt get any money back but aleast his tax code is rite cos they checked this too. My husband got just over £300 back alot of it will be taken back of his tax for the rest of this year he also got a cheque for £70 and this only took me 10 minutes to do its worth a try u never know wat u might get back, my husband works in a kitchen. So if you haven`t tried to get a uniform tax rebate just give it a go. so a big thank you to Martins page I never wud have knew wat to do but just followed wat you told us thanks again:j

    Hi Thanks for your reply.
We have been sent a P800 but to us its as clear as mud :):).
It says Income for tax year 2010-11..£17975..tax paid £2299.20, then underneath it says...earlier years adjustment £171..totals £18146...tax paid £2299.20.
Then deductions from income flat rate job expenses £60, less total deductions £60
your income after taking away deductions £17744
Personal allowance £6475, less total tax allowances £6475
Income tax is chargeable on this amount £11269
    Basic rate at 20% £2253.80
    Tax chargeable £2253.80
    Tax overpaid £45.40
    Repayment due to you £45.40
    (received this cheque)
No new tax code given..just says your employer will receive a new coding notice shortly.

Looks to us like thats all we are getting??
Lokks like you are getting a cheque for £45.40 and the early year adj is a refund too so thats for £171. they change ur tax code to cover early year adjustments they did on my husbands. flat rate job expenses £60 too hope that helps :)
