Popped into Morrisons this afternoonand saw Philips 'stick' long life lightbulbs, screw or bayonet, for 99p. They were a special offer, they had the 11w ones that equate to 60w normal lightbulbs and 18w (100w). Funnily enough, Morrisons own brand were still on the shelf at £1.99! :j

At 99p, the Philips ones are a steal - I bought 6, but might get some more tomorrow as I've been gradually replacing all the normal lightbulbs in the house as they fail. ;)
I only exist in my own mind - if you can see, hear or read me, you are a product of my imagination.
  • The economy stick ones are the ones that have been 47p in various outlets. Shops are likely to sell out of the 8 watt BC ones soon for a week or so as Philips have run out!

Tesco online are now down to 23p.
  • i've done some tests with traditional light bulbs and the low energy saving ones which are labelled with the actual low wattage value and the equivalent light value compared with traditional bulb. On every occasion even when i've left them on for a few minutes, they are never as bright, so as i replace my old bulbs use a higher output one than the suposing equivalent. for example when i replace a 60W bulb i use a 100W low watt equivalent to get a similar brightness of a 60W bulb. Can't remeber the exact figures but i think it means buying a 15W instead of a 11W maybe. Of course this is still cheaper to run than a traditional 60W but whats gone wrong with the equivalent labelling or have i missed the plot? does anyone else have this problem?
    Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j

it is a different type of light. the energy saving is white, cold light, while fluorescent is bright, warm-type.

I also would recommend to take some higher wattage than usually used. At the end is only a few watts more (e.g. 18 against 11W) but give a totally different result.
On a tehnical level I guess they measure lumen at a given distance.
    So not general brightness.

I've only found them in one place - B&Q, but they're not cheap. However, seeing as I need to put new candle bulbs in all the time as they die all the time, I am happy to go energy saving.

I have never seen energy saving candle bulbs in the supermarkets or pound shops or Wilkos etc. Not sure why.
