  • i am slightly confused by the android market. my phone wants me to set up a google account and will not let me log in with the one I have already got. I log into my google account with a yahoo address. However, it keeps wanting me to setup a gmail account.

Does android operate separately to 'google accounts'? Very confused.

  • forgive my ignorance but what is rooting? is that flashing it to get the orange firmware off?

that's my concern; if i move to a network other than orange, can I get orange only apps off? I (briefly) had a SE w995 and it annoyed me there were things like Orange Maps I couldnt use or shift...

anyway, looks like a bargain! My housemate works for the NHS, so hoping I could get a discount. However, she also has a iphone contract on Orange, so would it be easier if she tries to buy it for me as an ''existing customer''?

People produce custom ROM's or software if you want, different ROMS have different features, but basically it software without the Orange rubbish on, just stock features.

I have an existing contract on Orange and tried to order on Pay as you go, they wouldn't give any discount, and I had to buy the £10 top up

I really fancy getting a custom ROM on my phone. I've read a little about the on modaco - but since I only half understand what they are talking about I will hold off for now!

Do it! Just follow the guide, you'll be fine. I did mine almost straight out of the box.

    Fab. :T

Do you know the answer to my gmail question? Do I need to set up a gmail account in my google account before I'll be able to access the android market? ( only because the stuff needed for the new ROM is in there!)

Its easy and free to set one up so go for it.

I followed this thread and took some of the Orange rubbish off the phone - http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/321479/remove-orange-apps-on-san-francisco/

Just set up a gmail account its only needed for the market and if you want to buy apps. Its also used for all your contacts info but i assume you wont be using it for that.

Okey dokey - I guess I'll bite the bullet and set one up then. Seems strange that you can have a google account attached to another email address for all their other stuff (blogger, picassaweb, etc.), but then have to get gmail for android stuff.

    Oh well.
