Some sad news my neighbour, the lovely one not the PITA, has just passed away. She was so nice and a proper old school community type woman, who would do anything for anyone. She will be missed though it's probably just as well that we're moving soon as it's another council house so you're never quite sure who you might get.

I got a bit worried earlier today as i haven't actually done anything towards the move, so i sorted the gas, leccy, insurance, water & tv licence still loads more to do but it's a start. I also used up some stuff from the freezer namely a tub of rather old egg whites. The Oh makes delicious carbonara but there's always loads of whites left over so i generally freeze them. With the ever so good intention of doing something with them but i never do so tonight i made a spanish omlette and added two extra eggs-didn't go down well with oh who declared it tasteless but hey ho it's gone from the freezer now.

Next on the list-ring SKY (shiver) must be strong and cancel and not let them talk me into having them at the new house. Must be strong...........

  • Cocalls, thanks for putting your diary on here- it's really inspiring. I'm currently trying to save up so that the OH and I can buy a place together (currently he rents and I have a mortgage on a -er- bijou flat with undesirable next door neighbours) so it's good to see that it can be done.:T

You could use your egg whites for meringue or macaroons or langues de chat- not "essentials", but nice, and cheaper than buying posh biscuits. Probably. I like baking so justify spending on baking ingredients as "entertainment" rather than "food".

well the house move went really smoothly, we're all in and sorted, all boxes are unpacked which is great.
I'm still trying to shake off the feeling that this is our house and not a holiday home, it's weird as it's so much bigger (and the ceilings are soooo high) our furniture and stuff seems dwarfed in here and so it looks a bit sparse but i'm sure that'll not last long as it'll be filled up with clutter soon. I'm making a rag rug for the dining area which should be finished in a couple of weeks, so that'll add a bit of homeliness.

Moneywise ive kind of lost the plot-not sure how much we have or what the mortgage is now-i'll sort it out soon. I need to get our savings back up to 3month emergency saving levels have about £1050 but my main worry now is that we both need our wages to pay this mortgage, if one of us looses our jobs then we cant afford the payments which in this current climate is worrying.

So that's the next challenge-get the savings back on track.......

    hello all
Thought i'd give a bit of an update. Well i've reread this diary, i can't believe how desperate i sounded at the beginning, i'm so glad im not in that place anymore.I must admit that i haven't been thinking about overpayments at all over the past yr-i think we've just been ticking along making sure we can actually afford to live here, which we can, quite easily. We love this house, it feel less sparse thanks to a new sofa and bookcase from my rellys and the area is great. It really makes such a difference. However, i'm astonised how much we're spending at sainsbugs as its just over the road-you can see it from our front window it's just so easy to pop over to get somthing really need to put a stop to that as it's so expensive.

So i've been thinking about some little cheeky overpayments, nothing major but i dont like the thought that i'll still have a mortgage when im 60 so im hoping to get a few yrs off that.

You know what i didn't even know what our mortgae figure was until i looked at it a few mins ago it's now 147,924.42 really dont like those odd numbers and just tried to make an overpayment but it didn't let me and told me to ring up about it mmmm dont like that, will do it on monday.
