I am afraid I am one those lurky types. I always feel a bit self conscious when I write on the boards so I end up reading all and saying nowt.
I am nearly 58 and have been period free since I was 50. I still have flushes, though I would say they are not as regular as they once were and I wake regularly through the night with hot sweats. I think as time has gone on I have adapted and don't get to quite the extreme heat I used to. I have a summer quilt on my bed all year round and sleep with the window open which helps. OH is used to it so does not complain. I also think it helps a bit that I live in Scotland and the temperature is normally pretty low anyway :rotfl:
My biggest problem at the moment is hair loss. My hair is thinning dramatically on the top of my head
I keep looking at all the little old ladys with hardly any hair and thinking maybe when I get that bad that I will start wearing a purple hat:o Anyone know a good milliner.
Anyway, I am grateful for this thread and am glad I can read about others experiences of the meno so I am glad it is still here. Thanks folks.Haters are gonna hate - you're not obliged to participate0 -
Welcome Pondskater.
it's a bummer this malarkey isn't it.
and..............
they don't make mirrors like they used to don't you findMortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
Hi Dogcat - I get the muddled thing too & I find it a bit scary as my Mother has Alzheimer's & worry that my coga are slipping as she used to say.
We don't have Wilkinson's here, but I got some cheap tesco best body butter stuff ages ago & I've started using that & it is good. However I have a dermetitis patch on my ankle & that has got so much worse, not that I put the body butter near it. Was reading that it's the perimono fault - increases rashes as well!
Dogcat sorry to hear of your UC - that sounds painful. Hope you get something sorted out soon. Try not to worry about the camera thing. Often the worry is worse than the actual event of it.
Joyful - sorry you've not been feeling too great. It does come & go & is all a bit exhausting - well that's how I feel. I looked like I had a hangover, felt like I had a hangover this morning. Haven't had a drink in ages - just didn't get a great sleep again. It's like my face doesn't fit!
Great you are having a clear out. I keep meaning to & obviously there aint a lot of space in a caravan & what there is is filled to max. I should try ebaying some stuff but have never done it before.
Great that you make XMas tags out of cards. I'm even more skint flint. Some cards I cut bits off & glue then on a piece of card - ones with an inner - I take out & make a new inner. I haven't really got much to buy - we are very mean.
Poet - glad your feeling good. I know what you mean about the acceptance thing & wondering why you feel better. It's probably impossible to say just have to try things & try & be positive. I find 'talking' to you lot really has helped as it isn't something I can do.
wmf - have a nice time at the pub. I thought that whe I had a period the other month they would come again regular but they haven't appeared since. Although I felt as if they would the other week, had cramps & PMT but nowt. I don't think it sets you back. I think they, by they I mean the medical profession use the time since you last had a period as a rough calculation of whether you're, menopausal or perimenopausal. I don't know.
Hi pondskater - hope you are well. I don't know what to suggest for your hair loss. I don't have that but I do like wearing hats - quite a practical thing when it's cold.
Beautiful moon up again - really lovely to look at. We have gales forecast again - oh, I hate the wind.0 -
Great that you are having such moonlit nights Choille! How fab!! We have 'city sky' or whatever it's called. Up until our move last year, we were in Suffolk for 18 years. When my DS came 'home' (he went up to Glasgow for uni) he used to always comment on loving the big night sky again. I'd forgotten about that.
Pondskater - hi - good to read your post. the hair loss is a bit cr*p and something that sneaks up. My Dsis has gone through that so am sure I am likely to as well. Hats are great!!
Joyfull- my diet isn't always interesting! When DH used to work away and I worked fulltime, I'd have the same thing every night - often easy things like spaghetti with peanut butter stirred into it, or grated cheese. I get easily upset tum but am own worse enemy and don't follow a bland diet which i;m sure would help it. Last night was good though - back on the salmon trail - fillets, drizzled with olive oil, sprinkled with black pepper and cajun seasoning, into oven in a dish with a different lid so lots of gaps (this is so typical of me - muddly) then had it with boiled potatoes in their skins, carrots....and cabbage and brussel sprouts which did not go very well with yum yum delicate salmon but i am v frugal and they needed using up!
Thanks for the Wilkinsons oil info. I wonder if that is an English chain? I remember one in Yarmouth. I' still doing my new routine of cleanse with oil every 2nd night thanks to the lovely suggestion on here. It is really softening my skin. Re the dermatitis - yes, I went through itchier legs with lovely eczema patches of rashes. That seems to have cleared, along with the sleeplessness and the heat at night. No doubt something new will come along though - ah yes, it did, the b00bs.
Ok, I have been lazy in getting into the shower, despite since being up since 6.15 (yesterday was 5.15 - DH's new hours). Will give self good slick of the jasmine body oil thanks to this little community in here for reminding me to care for selfie.
Onwards friends. Hello new day!

Hi all: just got back from a long walk in the woods with the dog. He had a great time chasing the squirrels.
It was DD birthday Sat and we all went out and a nice meal had a few glasses of wine. Had a very good time.
Bronnie thanks for the tip on the eylure dylash kit will get some to try next time i go shopping.
Dogcat sorry you have DC, that does not sound nice.
Thanks you all for the good tips on here.
Hope you all have a good and happy day.0 -
Greetings gorgeous ones,
Welcome to Pondskater - lovely to know you are there. Gawd, flushes after 8 yrs.
Choille, if I didn't have my painful back I would also be making cards from cards. I tried ebaying once. Thought I'd collect vintage scarves from jumbles, boots and charity shops and sell them on. My 1st sale never got there, just an opened pkt from royal mail - it has been stolen. 3rd sale got sent to the wrong end of the country, the buyer forget to update her address and then tried to blame me. 'fraid I gave up as with all the fees, I was making pennies and I couldn't take the stress. I'm sure others make a success of ebay selling though.
chatbug - I also just got back from a walk, dressed like an eskimo & the real cold hasn't even arrived yet! Think I've found a badger's sett or a very big bunny hole.:)
spirit - yes mirrors best avoided, specially in daylight and wearing glasses.;)
wmf - yes the Wilkos oil sounds good, must track some down. Anything to help with the itchies, specially at night just when the dozies are coming on.
Hi poet, glad you're feeling good. I stopped my soy supps about 4 days ago after taking them for 3 months. I'm really not sure they helped, but if I go into flush meltdown in the next couple of weeks, I guess they did.
It's going to get sooo cold. Choille, stoke that fire up. It's all well & good until a flush comes and the 6 layers have to come off. Started writing xmas cards. Got about 50 avon customers who all get a card. Enjoy the day everyone. Ooooh just had a thought - mulled wine. xmas won't be long coming."Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0 -
mmmmmmmmmm mulled wine, joyfull. All I can say is MMMMMMMMM. Think I'll make some soon.
Lovely ladies out for walks eh? Great that the weather is so good. Your walks have reminded me of my plan to look at nature. Yesterday I looked for the reddest leaf I could find:).
I've been for a walk...round $ainsbury's ha ha. Had to get stores in for my sis coming tomorrow. Was frugal though and put some things back after getting carried away! We are out celebrating my niece's MA grad tomorrow night in a BYOB restaurant so i've got 4 bottles of wine. Don't know who else is bringing what but there will be 10 of us and my goodness the young 'uns can't have pack it away . Must remember to not even TRY to keep up. I will put my limit at 3 glasses as I'll feel unwell the next day if I have more.
Ok, only half the shopping put away. Need to make a list of what I have to do. Must make some phone calls/ write letters to places that I forgot to send a change of address to - a year ago .
Take care everyone, posters and readers.

Hello menos,
Glorious day, but cold here in kent. Drove through lovely lanes this morning all frosted up and crispy. :j
Took bread with bit of plastic that I'd found in it, back to tesco as instructed by their cust. services. Got 'served' by young male who treated me like I was a nuisance & basically said 'what do you want us to do?' I bided my time, let him ramble on, demand the receipt that of course I didn't have and he didn't actually need, and when he'd kept me standing there for nearly 10 mins, gave him a withering stare and asked him why he hadn't even apologised to me. Arrogant little !!!!!! even had an answer to that. Anyway got my dosh back and it'll be referred to HO & eventually I'll hear from them.:)
wmf - have a good celebration. 3 glasses max remember!
Right, meno matters....... .. hope everyone is not going through things that are too awful. Don't let those joints get cold & keep them moving if poss. Have a good day. XXX"Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0 -
Good morning lovely ladies
I have a day off work today so have been alternating little bouts of cleaning with cups of tea (and the occasional biccie)
I hope everyone is keeping OK in this chilly weather. Its absolutely freezing down here but I am happy because my DS1 is coming to visit (we moved down south a couple of years ago and don't see my boys enough at all)
I have had a strange weekend with my brain refusing to work properly. I have totally forgotten my PIN number and had to reorder it. I managed fine on Sunday in M and S but when I did my Mr T shop got it wrong twice so OH paid rather than me block my card. It was quite upsetting really. I have had a tearful weekend anyway blubbing my way through children in need. On the up side this cold weather is quite nice because I tend to just be over warm rather than occasional flushes.
Ah well I'm going to have to get used to this I suppose and it was reassuring that OH was really understanding.
Anyone with snow or just slippery conditions do be careful. The sky looks a bit iffy but at the moment it is just chilly here so I am hoping that we miss out on any of the fun.
Anyway better go. The ironing is calling my name.

Oh know what you mean cuddlymarm! I have had a couple of days off this week. Have been taking it easy, but maybe a bit too much easy as I feel a bit detached and dreamlike! Popped in Boots last night to buy some face cream and was wandering round very aimlessly looking at stuff, decided I'd ask the pharmacist if they had any tubs of coconut oil and waited ages while she was dealing with someone. They didn't have any and do you know what :eek:I very nearly walked out of the store without paying for the face cream I was still carrying :eek:. Just realised literally as I was at the door and spent the next half an hour imagining scenarios that would have ensued.0
