Hi everyone.....hope you've all had a good day today...we had a few flakes of snow...but nothing much. Its meant to be snowing here tommorow.....fun for the children...
Just waiting the arrival of my second oldest daughter...shes here until Monday. :j
Have a good evening all...and sleep well.0 -
Welcome Mollie - Hope the HRT helps you.
It's very cold here & the roads are pretty bad so we'll not be going anywhere.
Hope you are all feeling okay & keeping cosy.0 -
Hello everyone - What a fabulous thread :T
I also fall into the "peri-menopausal" group at 51. Still having periods, although they've gone a bit haywire the last 6 months, and having been a size 12 with a nice waist all of my adult life, am still a size 12, but my waist has virtually gone :-( So I can totally relate to FirebirdThe most common symptoms appear to be the obligatory hot flushes (sweats or just heat), lightheadedness and dizziness, memory problems (and yup, when you work or run a business that causes problems!), aches and pains, weight gain, skin problems, insomnia, possible bleeding problems if you still do, emotional problems such as extreme anxiety (it also affects your ability to work when you are exhausted through panic attacks or endless worry) increased clumsiness (constant accidents anyone?) hair loss or thinning, extreme tiredness..I could go on but suspect we`re all horribly familiar with at least one or three of those.
And I'm so glad I read your post Red Doe
I hate the light headed and dizziness thing, and as for my memory - I'm just so vacant a lot of the time.
In the last month or so I've found that I "lose" 30 or 45 minutes some days, and everything takes sooooo much longer that it used to because I cannot for the life of me concentrate, and I'm sure, if I was videoed that I actually "pause" for minutes at a time without realising it :shhh:
I went into the town to do some Christmas shopping on Wednesday, and actually found myself just stood outside a shop - I've no idea how long I'd been standing there, but it was like someone had just clicked their fingers, and I came out of a trance to find myself standing in the street. It really bothers me, cos I feel like I'm losing my marbles!
I have also become very clumsy, so I'm reassured to hear that that can be a symptom, so thanks for that
Another thing I am also reassured by, is that I can also suddenly become "shaky" out of the blue, as though from lack of food, even though I'm not hungry, so I now make sure when I'm out and about that I carry a pack of Dextrose with me so I can boost my sugar levels quickly.
Aside from all the above though - I'm fine
I was offered HRT as soon as I started showing symptoms of the menopause, but I also don't really see the point when you still have to go through the symptoms when you stop taking it, although I have to be honest and say that the health risks are my main concern.
My OH works with 4 women who are my age and are on HRT who say it has transformed them from tired, achy, hot flush and sweating quivering wrecks, to human beings again, who are confident and full of energy and say it's totally changed their lives......I think he rather wishes I'd reconsider :rotfl:Aug11 £193.29/£240

Hi Hippeechiq - lovely to *see* you in here!
Hi Mollie! Lovely to have peeps join us.
Snow here in Edinburgh and the park that our window overlooks is so pretty. Not much lying where i am but I hear some of the roads are bad further out.
I had a lovely time with my sis and her dh staying. They left yesterday afternoon so we had a last drinkie in a pub near their airport bus stop. I was very good when we went out for the meal the other night. Maybe had 4 glasses spread over the evening, but maybe it was 3. They were small stubby tumblers, so didn't hold as much:p. I had lots of cups of mint tea afterwards and the couldn't sleep at night. it was so odd - I kept wakening up - that wide awake feeling. I don't drink coffee after tea-time and just wonder if there was a lot of caffeine in it? Seems an odd thing.
Am going to cut out the cod liver oil supplement as I see it has vitE in it, which is also in the evening primrose oil and I'll stick with it for pre-menstrual b00bs. You will be glad that i can report in that they have reduced in size and i no longer have to take painkillers before bed:p. Good old period, coming out of the blue like that!!
Ok, am off to rub some nice oil into my feet just because that would be a nice little treat for feet. Going to have yoghurt, apple, satsuma and banana for my late brekkie even though it's all snowy. Just feel like a refreshing breakfast. Might be because I've had sausage sandwiches for the last 2 brekkies with sis being here ha ha.
I'm meeting up with some MSE peeps today in Edinburgh for lunch. Am really looking forward to it.
Keep warm folks. Get some of this winter sun on you though, if you can

Hi all, have just been browsing and came across this thread. I have only managed to read a few pages, but it so rings a bell. I am menopuasal, and so many of the sympotms (including the inability to spell!!) ring a bell.
Physically I feel tired, have aches and pains and back ache all the time. Cant sleep, very restless, lots of hot flushes and sweats, very forgetful, feel weepy and frequently upset. I also feel flabby and out of shape. I havent actually gained much weight, but feel lumpy and dumpy.
It is nice to know I am not alone. I have read lots of information type material, but it is nice to see a supportive place to moan!
Back to catching up, (page 5)

Hi Lovlies,
Big welcome to Hippee and Katie - very good to know you're enjoying the thread amd getting some comfort from it. It seems the lack of focus thing is v common. I used to be Ms Efficient & Organised. No more. I get overwhelmed by the slightest thing and get very muddle headed. As long as it's not causing danger to life or limb I just try to see the lighter side of it.;)
Wmf - I wonder if your wakefullness the other night was caused by peppermint. It's a known stimulant. I bet you had a great time in Edinburgh today, what fun.:D
Isn't it freezing. Just chucked an old bedspread over my car to try to avoid the big ice scrape early tomorrow. Actually I usually slosh warm water over the windows but it's so cold it freezes again.
Choille, I do hope you're keeping warm. Are you snowed in?
Dogcat - I had to read your post a few times 'just expecting the arrival of second daughter....' I had visions of you giving birth. The brain is in slow mode!
My MS tip :money:- make my own hat. I've got loads of wool so I'll browse the net for an interesting hat to crotchet.
Get those bedsocks and nightcaps out. I have actually worn a hat in bed when living in very cold places in my younger days, and it really does keep you warm.

Hi folks. bbbrrrrr cold here tonight. Our kitchen is like a little ice box so I've just closed the door.
Hello to katieclampet. Sorry to hear you are being so bothered by all those aches, pains, forgetfulness and *stuff* but it is so reassuring and comforting to come in here and share with other folk going through similar things. Goodness that sentence was long winded.
Choille - I think you must have freezing weather. My DD';s partner's folk are over on the west coast and they have snow. I know there is a huge amount in Aviemore (no surprise there!). Keep warm.
I had the most fab time at the Edinburgh meet. It was like meeting old friends!
Have just had toast and pretendy butter and am off to bed with my library book ('Room'. Very odd and i'm not sure that I'm enjoying it but I'm going to give it more of a chance). My Walter Hottle Bottle has been doing its best to warm my bed. Might need socks tonight. No alarm set for tomorrow though - bliss. Shoulder was really sore last night and a bit achey now so going to take painkiller in hope it eases it a bit.
Night night all. Cosy down in your beds now and no throwing the covers off tonight:p

Goodness it's cold & we are staying close to the stove with the cats.
Welcome Hippi & Katie.
WMF - that'd be interesting meeting others. Glad your sis visit went well & the b00b thing have deflated - gee I remember having that - not good.
Joyful - we do wear hats in bed when it's this cold. The cats get under the covers - not very hygenic & don't tell anyone.
Keep warm meno ones.0 -
My Walter Hottle Bottle has been doing its best to warm my bed.
Oh I used to LOVE that comic strip...
I am kinda wishing I hadn't gone down the HRT road...I might not be feeling the cold so much!
Was telling my sis, last night, about going on it, and it had solved the flushes ... and something else ... long pause ...
'It'll not be your memory then' she said :rotfl:
(It's the SLEEP - I am sleeping - not a WHOLE night but for MUCH MUCH longer before I wake! - so much so that I have been able to stay up past 10 o'clock!)
I am joking about the HRT by the way - one week in and I feel human again. I know it's not for everybody.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear0 -
Hi Vali - glad you are sleeping. My sleeping seems better - manage to get off to sleep, just wake early & just dozing on & off. The cats getting on & off the bed don't help - I suppose.
Can't get myself going in the mornings though.
walter hottle bottle - that rings a bell from a distant past........0
