why do we get treated like numpties when we get to a certain age? last week I rang gps - spoke to nurse who diagnosed (over the phone) a sinus infection - I told her that I felt dreadful (like walking about to save on funeral expense). Nurse said I should wait 2 weeks for infection to go and I needed to "strongly consider" ringing up about such things!! This week still ill, doctor at walk in centre tells me I have fluid on lung and need antibiotics.

Why are women treated like neurotic mard asses or feeble minded numpties??

Ooh got that off my chest

Aww! poor you, vwelsh! The trouble is when you're feeling poorly (and I can sympathise with sinus infections, nothing is inclined to make you feel more woolly-headed and rotten than that)these things are hard to battle.

When on form, I actually find age and maturity helps to be taken more seriously though tbh. What I find important is to be absolutely sure of my facts before I start. I will then persist, smilingly and charmingly, always empathising with the person I'm on to but ruthlessly and persistently until I secure the result that is fair. Usually suceed, but you've got to be in the right frame of mind to start with!!

I hope I'm setting a good example to my DD. I find it's youngsters who will often get fobbed off! I also have to say, without being disloyal, that there are a few right power-crazed women of of our age, who have a very poor customer service attitude. Often seems to me like they're doing the jobs to their own rules. I overheard the deputy manageress of our local Spar, speaking to a customer the other day, who thought the assistant had wrong-changed him. He seemed a genuine old fellow and the way she spoke (shouted)at him made me want to go and poke my nose in on his behalf GRRR!

    Hope you're feeling better soon.

    Hi Ladies,

Nice one Bronnie - Like it v much. If you're 'appearing' fairly cuddly if can really pack a punch as people kind of don't know what's happening ;). Ha!

Choille - good new re. the vanishing flushes :D.

I spoke to a friend today who is 64 and has been on HRT for 22 yrs for a hysterectomy. She's been recommending it to me for years to 'sort out' my flushing. I've been v tempted but don't want to dabble. Well, she's now weaned herself off it (Dr's advice) and WHAM, flushes back Big Time. She can't believe it and doesn't look quite the confident woman she was. It's strengthened my resolve to just let them take their course and I have to say (whisper) they're not too bad atm.

Forced myself out for a bracing march ish and feel I've earned a sit down & cuppa.

vwelsh - Grrr! blurry nurse. I'd be tempted to remind her of your conversation and update her with details of your illness. Oh, and then ask her for her name & ask how you spell it ;). That might bring her down off her high horse.

Keep warm everyone. Be kind to ourselves all unwellies, tearfullies, stressies, . Was that even English, who cares. XXX

Hi Joyful _ re your friend on HRT. I also knew someone who was taking HRt for a long time & she came off becuase of health reasons and had all the going through the flushes. She reckoned that she had just delayed the inevitable & felt she'd have been better dealing with it all when she was younger. She ended up going to a homeopath & getting stuff that helped her.

I think at one time HRT was almost pushed at you but things have possily changed now?
I'd rather not go down that route if I can avoid it.

Choille - I hear that HRT is on offer these days but for a very limited time by drs. As you say, best to go through this when the body is relatively strong rather than having it added to other health probs that may be lurking down the road. I'm a great believer in strengthening the body in more natural ways, but feel loath to share too much on this forum.

Hi Peeps and welcome to Mollie,

So glad you're enjoying the thread.

Just a quickie. Had biggest Avon order ever arrive today & have been out delivering. Am tired out & back is killing me. Good job done though.

Lovely crisp night. A nearby village was all lit up for Xmas and looked like fairyland. Beautiful.

Do Wrap up everyone. Hats, Mittens, long johns, thick socks - the lot. Sleep well & sweet dreams. XXX
