....have just read this. if true, then how outrageous are the remarks made to her? I'm afraid I do believe these kind of cases do need to be brought if attitudes are to be changed.

There were 4 older women who were replaced by younger women.
Michaela Strachan and Juliet Morris were 2 of the other women along with Miriam who were replaced.

This isn't new - just look at gardeners world, news readers. But in 'real' life, off the telly, women are excluded because of their age. Men are deemed to have a longer shelf life when it comes to telly jobs.

The thing is a lot of the programes that are replacing the experienced presenters with much younger women are watched by older women - so who are they doing it for?

I have no doubt that it is terrible but women in high paid, high profile positions are more liable to be compensated that women who are not - so not only is it sexist, ageist, it is also class based - in my opinion.
Where I used to live all the women who worked in the bank where I banked were in their late 40's 50's. They were all given jobs back room & were replaced by girls - females in their teens who did not have the experience nor manner that was needed. The older women all eventually left without redundancy payment as they were effectively constructively dismissed by being given very little work to do - it was terrible for them.
The more that this type of thing happens, the worse it becomes. Boys were asked which they preferred looking at surgically enhanced breasts, or natural ones - they picked the modified ones. Looking at photos of women who have had a lot of 'enhancements' ie botox, lip fillers, etc the perceived beauty would seem to be 'enhanced' & some may say false appearence. Treatments are being done on younger & younger women & sometimes even done on girls. You can buy high heels & bras for children - and it will be women who are buying them in the main for their daughters. What sort of weird world is this?
Rant over - hope you are all feeling okay.
Raining here but I must get out & haul wood before I loose the will.
  • Hi again all, hope you are well. My aches and pains seem to be getting worse and my back is giving me some gyp. Sometimes I feel its hard to function properly because of all of this aching. Has anyone taken HRT? I went on it for a while but it didn't suit me so I came off it. I just don't know what to do anymore. I feel I can't keep on feeling like this but the HRT just made me feel worse and someone said it was making my stomach bigger so that put me off aswell. Is feeling this much aches and pains normal in the menopause? I still can't help but get worried.

I'm the same with the creaking & cracking joints - knees, hip, even my fingers are sore today.

I have a book somewhere about green pharmacy - I'll have to hunt it down as they usually have good, cheap, suggestions re diet & herbal supplements.

Hi all been reading this thread, very helpful points in it. I started the perimenopauce stage in my early 40s, ie irregular periods, headaches, weight gain and lots more. When i was 48 periods stoped not had one since. Now i suffer with hair loss, depression, anxiety, fuzzy thinking and my jelly belly, very bad stiffness and pain in joints.
I take a supplerment that helps my hot flashes,
Just been looking and found a web site called women to women very good read and lots of helpful information, ok it is trying to get you to buy a programe from them but just reading it is free.

    Hi all,
I always have my morning caffeine then decaf for the rest of the day. Joyfull I reckon iof you feel like some real coffee now and again it should be OK - eveerything in moderation and all that.
Chatbug, I know what you mean about the hair loss, its quite disturbing. Mine is really thinning at the sides. Iused to wear it pulled back at the sides but am now bringing it down to cover the thinning patches.
Well here's another one that I don't think has been mentioned. My psoriasis which has always been quite mild, treatable most of the time with OTC products has flared up big time. I have been woring hard to try and clear things for about two months with no results. I was having a look online to see if there was anything else I could try before giving in and going to the doc and hey ho. Flare ups can be triggered by the menopause so if your skin conditions are worse - guess why? - like we don't have enough already.

On page 320 is a chapter on the menopause that mentions some herbs that may be beneficial. If you look at the contents page you'll find you can click on the chapter.

    Hi everyone:hello:
I hope you don't mind me joining in. I also am a hottie (and lots more symptoms besides) I'm 49 and things are starting to happen. Well actually I've had a lot of symptoms on and off for a few years but recently things have got worse.
Also | have an underactive thyroid which doesn't help (until now the GPs have always said it is probably my thyroid and sent me for blood tests (again)
Anyway last week I got everything at once period, hot flushes, anxiety, waking in the night etc and finally decided enough was enough (typically by the time I got a doctors appointment I was feeling much better and my body is behaving itself. But I didn;t want to take suppliments or anything without the GPs OK in case they affect my thyroxine levels so I have been and feel much more positive. She was lovely and didn't make me feel like I was wasting her time and the general gist of the conversation was that if I was happy to try diet and herbal remedies first before we try HRT because she tries to only give it for up to 5 years if possible. Also she says that if I try to get the hot flushes under control first I might feel better because often the symptoms can be related (which makes sense because I wake up because I am too hot)

Oh sorry I didn't mean to ramble on so
I hope everyone is feeling OK

welcome newbies, so glad you've joined us.

Just read the Miriam O'Reilly wrinkle thing in the Times. It's bad enough that it happens at all, but worse that it's denied, & then implied that the women are 'imagining it' or 'over sensitive'. You've only got to watch the number of older grey haired men in senior positions on TV .....

Slightly off at a tangent, but a major rant of mine. The amount of tv coverage of male dominated sports. Hours & hours and hours. Can anyone imagine the equivalent tv coverage of, say, crotchet, rug making, female hairstyling, the WI etc. You get my drift. It would not even be taken seriously.

Sorry so many are feeling so achey. That is not nice at all. So hard to know why, is it or is it not the meno.

I will enjoy a little caffeine & just hope it doesn't make the insomnia even worse. Thanks for the support. :A

Done 30 Avon deliveries today & still have to go out in the dark to do a few more. Still, they won't notice I'm now in my fleeces & no lippy.;)

It's a bit wild out there, so tuck up warm tonight, with the option of chucking it off pdq. :)
